Effects of Romosozumab on Bone Density in Women With Anorexia Nervosa

This protocol is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial which aims to investigate the effect of romosozumab on BMD in women with anorexia nervosa. The investigators will also investigate the safety of romosozumab in women with anorexia nervosa. The investigators hypothesize that 12 months of romosozumab administration will result in an increase in bone mineral density, increase in markers of bone formation and decrease in markers of bone resorption, and improvement in bone microarchitecture in osteopenic women with anorexia nervosa compared with placebo. The extension study will offer subjects 12-month administration of open-label alendronate (an oral bisphosphonate) 70 mg once weekly after the initial 12 month administration of romosozumab or placebo. The investigators hypothesize that 12 months of romosozumab followed by 12 months of open-label alendronate will result in a greater increase in BMD compared to 12 months of placebo followed by 12 months of open-label alendronate. Within the group of women who receive sequential therapy with 12 months of romosozumab followed by 12 months of alendronate, the investigators hypothesize that BMD will be maintained between 12 and 24 months while on alendronate.

Feasibility and Acceptability of AVATAR Therapy in Eating Disorders.

This project will answer the overarching research question "What is the feasibility of developing and implementing AVATAR therapy to reduce the power of the eating disorder voice in patients with eating disorders?". AVATAR therapy for eating disorders has been developed based on AVATAR therapy for psychosis. The feasibility of using AVATAR therapy in eating disorders will be tested using non-concurrent multiple baselines single case experimental design. The first stage (A1) will involve participants being randomly allocated to either a two, three or four week-baseline. The second will be the intervention phase (B) where participants will receive the AVATAR treatment which will last approximately 6 weeks. The third stage (A2) will be a 4-week follow-up period after the intervention phase, where participants will also complete a qualitative interview.

Art Therapy qEEG Study for Service Members With a Traumatic Brain Injury and Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms

Service members and/or recently separated veterans with post traumatic stress symptoms and mild traumatic brain injury may participate in 8 sessions including 2 sessions including interviews and questionnaires as well as 6 sessions of art therapy. In the art therapy, participants will be provided with a blank paper mache mask template and invited to alter the mask however they wish using a variety of art materials. The therapist will use the art-making process and culminating product to aid in self-reflection, reframe negative thoughts and feelings, and work through traumatic content. Prior to the session start participants will get set up with a mobile qEEG (worn like a hat and backpack). The qEEG will measure brain activity in a non-invasive way throughout the art therapy session to improve understanding of brain activity during the art therapy process.

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) characterizes a range of negative health and performance outcomes that result from chronically low energy availability. RED-S concerns high performance junior and senior athletes across Canada and has a prevalence rate of 3-60%. Our ability to assess and diagnose RED-S remains poor. Accordingly, we aim to create the best parameters to diagnose and manage RED-S; along with information of the prevalence and severity across Canada and globally. These outcomes are expected to have a significant positive impact on the health and performance of Canadian athletes in preparation for the Olympic Games in 2022 and beyond.

Implementation, Efficacy and Costs of Inpatient Equivalent Home-Treatment in German Mental Health Care

The "inpatient-equivalent home treatment"(IEHT) according to §115d SGB-V is a particular version of the internationally well-known and evidence-based Home Treatment. As a complex intervention, IEHT requires a multi-method evaluation on different levels in the German context. The AKtiV study that is financed by the Innovation Fund of the Federal Joint Committee (proposal ID: VSF2_2019-108) meets this request. In this quasi-experimental study with a propensity score-matched control group, we assess and combine quantitative and qualitative data. Outcome parameters include classical clinical ones such as hospital readmission rates, mental state, and recovery outcomes. In addition, it evaluates issues concerning the right target population, treatment processes, implementation strategies, and factors associated with positive outcomes. The study takes into account the perspective of patients, relatives, staff as well as decision makers in politics and administration. Therefore, we expect the results to be relevant for a broad audience and to contribute to further refinement and adaption of the model.

Parent Intervention to Prevent Disordered Eating in Children With Type 1 Diabetes

A recent Diabetes UK Position Statement identified several key gaps in the evidence base that might improve mental wellbeing for people with diabetes; one of which was supporting people with diabetes and eating disorders. There is evidence indicating that disordered eating may be more prevalent in children and young people (CYP). Additionally, there is mounting supporting evidence for family-based treatments in both anorexia and bulimia. This study proposes to develop a psycho-education intervention for parents of CYP with Type 1 diabetes (T1D), which will include a one-day workshop with online, downloadable content, and to assess the feasibility of this intervention. Parents will be asked to complete questionnaires about eating habits, diabetes management (both behaviour and knowledge) and wellbeing at three time-points (baseline, one-month and three-months postintervention). Children will also be asked to complete measures on diabetes eating problems at the same time intervals. Parents randomised to the intervention arm will be invited to take part in a semi-structured interview and all parents will be invited to feedback on their participation. It is hypothesised that a psycho-education intervention aimed at parents will help prevent disordered eating in CYP with T1D and improve parental wellbeing.

The overarching goal of this Registry is to rapidly advance research and understanding of the use of cannabis and hemp-based formulations, in the clinical community setting, when it is utilized to manage the symptoms of cancer treatment and other underlying health issues. These symptoms include nausea, neuropathy, and sleeplessness and chronic pain.

The Role of the Circadian System in Binge Eating Disorder

Binge eating disorder (BED) shows prominent circadian features that suggest a delay in circadian phase, and preliminary evidence shows binge eating may be responsive to chronobiological interventions, implicating a circadian system dysfunction in its pathophysiology. What remains lacking, however, is comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics of circadian system dysfunction in BED, and whether this dysfunction represents a therapeutic target in BED. There is therefore a critical need to characterize circadian system dysfunction in BED, and evaluate it as a potential therapeutic target. Without such information, the understanding on the role of the circadian system in BED and its potential as a new therapeutic target will remain limited.
