Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4I), key regulators of the actions of incretin hormones, exert anti-hyperglycemic effects in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. A major unanswered question concerns the potential ability of DPP-4I to improve intrahepatic lipid (IHL) content in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of sitagliptin on IHL in NAFLD patients.

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the most common and harmful chronic liver disease, and it is increasingly diagnosed in many developed and developing countries. Previous studies suggested a significant association between hyperuricemia and MAFLD and that hyperuricemia plays a causal role in the development of MAFLD. Xanthine oxidase is a key enzyme in uric acid metabolism, and It thus can be considered as is a therapeutic target for MAFLD, so long-term urate-lowering therapy may play a role in amelioration of MAFLD by controlling uric acid levels. So, this study is conducted to assess the effect of controlling hyperuricemia using different xanthine oxidase inhibitors on amelioration of MAFLD.

Sidekick Health has developed a digital behavioral change program (SK-241) specifically designed for people with metabolic derangements and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The SK-241 is delivered through a mobile application and aims at improving lifestyle and health outcomes by focusing on improving diet, increasing activity levels and reducing stress. In this study, the feasibility of the newly developed digital behavioral change program (SK-241) will be evaluated in a minimum of 30 individuals with a NAFLD diagnosis. The primary aim is to explore the acceptability of the SK-241 program by its users, in addition to exploring changes in clinical outcomes and medication adherence after a 12-week intervention with 6 months follow up.

Unhealthy lifestyle represents a key element fueling the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) onset and worsening. The investigators aimed to evaluate the effects of confinement-related lifestyle changes experienced during the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic on NAFLD evolution. A retrospective cohort of NAFLD patients was followed two years before and two years during the pandemic. At three identified time points [baseline (January 2018: T0), intermediate (January 2020: T1), and end of study (January 2022: T2)], anthropometrical, biochemical, nutritional, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) data and non-invasive tools measurements were collected.

Effect of Patient Demographics, Comorbidities, and Medications on Severity of NASH Fibrosis

Few studies have evaluated an extensive list of possible risk factors for NAFLD for their association with presence and severity of histologic features. We wish to conduct a retrospective study on these possible factors (including demographics, comorbid diseases, and medications) for their association, if any, with severity of histopathologic findings. This study hypothesize that certain risk factors, specifically those contributing to or consisting of metabolic syndrome, will have higher NASH Fibrosis stages.
