Filter by:This will be a prospective, multicentre study conducted to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of two TB breath-based technologies independently of the manufacturers. Assay error and failure rates and device operational characteristics will also be assessed during this study. Participants will be enrolled in this study in line with FIND sample banking activities. Results from index tests will not be used to make clinical decisions. Participation in this study will not alter the standard of care.
Chronic liver disorders (CLD) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality for individuals in the US. Though serologic analysis will often lead to a conclusive diagnosis, liver biopsy remains an important method for helping to determine the etiology and stage of LD. Percutaneous liver biopsy (PLB), transjugular liver biopsy (TLB) and surgical liver biopsy (SLB) are alternative methods for obtaining hepatic tissue. In recent years endoscopic ultrasound guided-liver biopsy (EUS-LB) has come to the forefront as a safe and effective method for obtaining tissue in CLD. There are several studies of the safety of EUS-LB as well as the adequacy of specimens obtained in this fashion. Most studies involve a 19-gauge needle, therefore in this study the investigators hope to compare the tissue yields of a 22-gauge fine needle biopsy (FNB) needle, in comparison to conventional 19-gauge. The investigators predict that 19 and 22 gauge FNB needle will demonstrate similar diagnostic accuracy, with less visible blood artifact. Similarly the investigators predict the safety to be equal.
In 2015-2016, 224,390 cases were newly diagnosed with lung cancer in USA. Of all the cases, 83% are non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Currently, the 5-year survival rate of NSCLC patients is 21%, and more than 25% of early stage NSCLC patients, who have undergone surgical treatment, will have a relapse or progression. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), which shed from the primary tumor into the vasculature or lymphatics, can be regarded as a new prognostic factors of metastatic process. Thus far, CTCs-detection technologies can be divided into epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-based detection methods, e.g., the widely used CellSearch® and Adnatest®,and EpCAM-independent detection methods, e.g., ISET® and ScreenCell®. Herein, the investigators used a newly established approach, i.e., CanPatrolTM to detect CTCs in early stage lung Adenocarcinoma cases. The investigator aim to explore whether CTCs detection prior to surgery can be contributive to the early diagnosis, or may help to predict the prognosis and guide the treatment strategy of early stage lung Adenocarcinoma.
