Memantine Versus Donepezil in Early Stages of Alzheimer's Disease

It is well known that in the brain of the patients with Alzheimer's disease there is a glutamatergic hyperstimulation leading to neuronal death. Memantine is a low affinity antagonist of NMDA glutamate receptors. The use of this drug in the early phases of the disease could provide neuroprotective effects and delay of progression. The effects of memantine should be compared to those of donepezil, which is the most prescribed anticholinesterase drug.

Project COPE:Managing Dementia at Home

This study tests the effectiveness of an in-home intervention to reduce upset and burden among family caregivers, and decrease nursing home placement. The main hypothesis that will be tested is that compared to control group, subjects, experimental group participants will have enhanced well-being and fewer nursing home placements.

Pain Perception in Alzheimer's Disease

The purpose of this study is to determine response to pain in Alzheimer's disease.We plan to study the effect of diffuse noxious inhibitory controls(counterirritation phenomenon)and the autonomic nervous system reaction(reflected by the heart rate) in Alzheimer's disease. The study's hypothesis is that pain perception and autonomic nervous system reaction are altered in Alzheimer's disease.

Efficacy and Safety Study of DCB-AD1 in Patients With Mild to Moderate Alzheimer’s Disease

A Double-blind, Randomized, Placebo Controlled Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of DCB-AD1 in Patients with Mild to Moderate Alzheimer’s Disease. Because of the limitation of the sample size we could expect but a positive trend of the efficacy unless the effect size of DCB-AD1 is larger than 0.63. This information will provide us clue if further clinical investigation such as a phase III study should be carried out in an even larger scale. We also should be able to obtain valuable experience on the adverse effect of prolonged (24-week) use of Fo-ti.
