NCT ID: NCT00446212 Completed - Anaesthesia Clinical Trials

Dreaming and EEG Changes During Anaesthesia Maintained With Propofol or Desflurane

Start date: August 2006
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

We hypothesise that patients who receive propofol for maintenance of anaesthesia will report dreaming more often when they emerge from anaesthesia than patients who receive desflurane for maintenance of anaesthesia.

NCT ID: NCT00226876 Completed - Anaesthesia Clinical Trials

Dreaming During Anaesthesia and Anaesthetic Depth

Start date: February 2005
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Patients commonly report that they have been dreaming when they awaken from general anaesthesia. Our hypothesis is that patients who report dreaming are less deeply anaesthetised during anaesthesia than patients who do not report dreaming. Depth of anaesthesia will be determined using a processed electroencephalographic monitor (called the BIS monitor).

NCT ID: NCT00192959 Completed - Anaesthesia Clinical Trials

Xenon Inhalation During Orthopaedic Surgery in Elderly Subjects.

Start date: March 2004
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective was to explore the feasibility of inhaled xenon for sedation in terms of its effect on postoperative cognitive function in elderly, in comparison with the postoperative cognitive function found after IV propofol sedation in the same population. The secondary objectives were designed to assess the feasibility of xenon sedation in terms of its effects on different neuropsycho-logical test variables, vital signs, sedation levels and safety in elderly orthopaedic subjects.
