The Effects of Topical Hyaluronic Acid and Laser Application on Wound Healing in Children

Tooth extraction is one of the major surgical procedures that can cause dental anxiety and dental fear in pediatric patients as a result of traumatic experiences. Preventing pain and infection by appropriate means during and after this application increases patient comfort and helps to develop patient cooperation for possible future dental experiences. In the current literature, it has been shown that topical hyaluronic acid applications have a role in reducing infection and pain. There are also studies in the literature showing that tissue biostimulation with different doses of diode laser application accelerates wound healing by promoting cell regeneration. Although there are studies showing that two different applications accelerate wound healing, there is no study comparing the effectiveness of these two methods. In addition, there is no study evaluating extraction wound healing in pediatric patients. Our study will be the first to evaluate tooth extraction wound healing in pediatric patients and to compare these two methods.

A Nursing Triage Protocol for Minor Orthopedic Traumata: the Effect on Flow Time, Quality of Care and Patient Satisfaction in an Emergency Department

In 2019, nearly half of all hospital contacts in Belgium took place through the emergency department, and more than a third of patients arrived after an accident or trauma. In instances of overcrowding, patients with minor orthopedic injuries face prolonged waiting times. Previous studies have shown that implementing triage protocols for medical imaging conducted by a triage nurse can reduce the Total Length of Stay (TLOS) for this patient group. This is a single-center, unblinded, randomized, controlled trial that aims to evaluate the impact of a nurse triage protocol on turnaround time (primary outcome), quality of care, and patient satisfaction. The study population consists of adults who present with minor orthopedic injuries below the elbow or knee and have an Emergency Severity Index (ESI) of 4 or 5. Participants are randomly assigned to either the 'nurse triage protocol' group (n=110) or the 'usual care' group (n=110).

This randomized, controlled, pivotal study is intended to determine whether up to ten sequential 24-hour treatments with the Selective Cytopheretic Device (SCD) will improve survival in patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) requiring continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) when compared to CKRT alone (standard of care). This study is further intended to determine whether SCD therapy will reduce the duration of maintenance dialysis secondary to AKI. This study will enroll approximately 200 subjects across 30 US sites. Participants will be patients in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting with a diagnosis of AKI requiring CKRT.

Neurostimulation for Respiratory Function After Spinal Cord Injury

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the connections between the brain, nerves, and diaphragm after experiencing a cervical spinal cord injury (SCI).The main question it aims to answer is: Changes in respiratory function and recovery using stimulation and respiratory exercise training in spinal cord-injured individuals. Participants will complete a maximum of 55 study visits. They will be asked to complete about 40 treatment sessions which include multiple stimulation sessions over the scalp and neck, followed by about 60 minutes of respiratory training. Assessment sessions will be completed prior at baseline, after 20 sessions and after 40 sessions of study treatment.
