Filter by:The pilot study is prospective, randomized, double-blinded, with intra-subject comparisons against a vehicle control. The primary objective of this pilot study is to investigate the safety and effectiveness of a new wound care product formulated to improve healing outcome, minimize complications of impaired healing and minimize the appearance of scars. This pilot study is double-blinded, which means that neither the evaluating physician nor the subject will know which treatment is administered. Subjects' with 2 comparable excision sites will be randomly assigned to use the FS2 restorative wound care product on one excision site and a vehicle formulation of the product on the other. At the discretion of the Principal Investigator, a sutured wound may be bisected for intra-wound comparison of treatments. In all cases, after application of either vehicle or FS2, a layer of petrolatum will be applied to cover the wound site as a standard of care.
The aim of this study is to compare the relative effectiveness of three different treatment groups for improvements of postural control and for improvements of balance in these patients using aquatic therapy.

Several studies have highlighted the value of analyzing a patient's psychological profile with the Bortner scale questionnaire (defined as type A or B personality). This analysis helps to better understand and anticipate patients' behaviour, stress and compliance with their disease and its progression. The Type A personality profile combines hyperactivity, competitiveness and exaggerated ambition, while the B profile is characterized by lower sensitivity to stress and reduced competitiveness. It has been shown that the type B psychological profile in patients with type 2 diabetes is an independent risk factor for inflammation and that, in type 1 diabetes, the type A psychological profile is associated with a decrease in the expression of the pro-inflammatory cFos gene. Thus, the psychological profile appears to have an impact not only on the patient's behaviour but also on his or her biology. It has never been determined whether the type A or B psychological profile assessed by Bortner's self-administered questionnaire can influence the development of foot wounds in patients with type 2 diabetes who often have a medically unfavourable prognosis and socio-economic difficulties. We would therefore like to study the psychological profile of these individuals in order to make comparisons with the data obtained in a previous study that included patients with type 2 diabetes who did not have a foot wound.

Several studies suggested that ARDS may have important adverse effects on renal function, but few studies have specifically addressed the risk factors of AKI and its impact on the outcome in theses patients.
TRALI was defined as "acute noncardiogenic pulmonary edema typically occurs ≤ 6 hours following transfusion of plasma-containing blood products, such as packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, platelets, or cryoprecipitate." In critically ill patients, TRALI remains the leading cause of transfusion-related fatalities and is accompanied by a very significant morbidity and mortality. Survival in such patients is as low as 53% compared with 83% in acute lung injury (ALI) controls. The incidence of TRALi is likely underreported. In densely populated developing countries, incidence has not decreased due to lack of male-only strategy for plasma donation. TRALI is associated with systemic inflammation characterized by low anti-inflammatory cytokine as interleukin (IL)-10, increased pro-inflammatory cytokine as IL-8. Regulation of inflammation should include avoidance of overproduction of inflammatory mediators. So, it can be dampened not only by increasing IL-10 but also by decreasing IL-1β release. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase protein which is up-regulated during infections and inflammation. CRP was recently identified as a novel first hit in TRALI. Till now, there is no established treatment for TRALI beyond supportive care and monitoring. Recently, potential therapies have been reviewed, and it was concluded that the most promising therapeutic strategies are IL-10 therapy, downregulation of CRP levels, targeting reactive oxygen species (ROS) or blocking IL-8 receptors. So, antioxidants (such as high dose vitamins), were recommended for future studies as potentially effective treatment. Vitamin C hypovitaminosis is observed in 70% of critically ill despite receiving recommended daily doses. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of intravenous vitamin C (ascorbic acid) as a targeted therapy for transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI) in critically ill patients in terms of IL-8, IL-10, CRP, SOD, malondialdehyde (MDA), vasopressor use, duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay, 7-days mortality and 28-days mortality.
A comparative study between two groups, group I; retrospective group, 21 patients underwent hepaticojejunostomy for treatment of iatrogenic bile duct injuries without access loop, in the period between January 2013 and December 2014, group II; a prospective group, 23 patients underwent hepaticojejunostomy for iatrogenic bile duct injuries with duodenojejunostomy as a permanent access loop, in the period between June 2017 and May 2019. Primary (early and late outcome) and management of complications data were collected and analyzed properly.
The aim of study was to observe changes in denervated muscles viscoelastic properties and motor performance of OBPP children. Viscoelastic properties have a significant effect on muscle performance; however have not investigated yet in denervated muscle. Hypothesized that the viscoelastic properties of denervated muscles are different than healthy side muscles and can vary depending on the age groups. 74 patients who have C5-C6 root lesion were enrolled to the study. The patients were grouped according to their age groups: 1-5 months, 6-24 months and 25-36 months. Myoton-3 myotonometric measuring device was used to measure the viscoelastic properties (tone, elasticity and stiffness) of deltoid, biceps brachii. Active Movement Scale were used to evaluate the motor function of the muscles. There were difference in muscle viscoelastic properties depending on age group. Children aged 0-5 months showed significant difference in deltoid muscle tone (p=0.0001), stiffness (p=0.0001), biceps brachii muscle tone (p=0.0001) and stiffness (p=0.0001), when compared with other groups (denervated side was lower in values). Therefore, it is in our opinion that in follow-up, clinical assessment of viscoelastic properties will be useful for monitoring denervated muscle; also treatment programs and purposes for OBPP should be varying according to the muscle properties.
It is unknown whether this evolved strategy (Pre-Hospital Zone I P-REBOA) is feasible and with an acceptable safety profile.
