View clinical trials related to Venous Thromboembolism.
Filter by:The purpose of this study is to perform a pragmatic randomized controlled trial to compare the use of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH, lovenox, enoxaparin) versus acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis in patients with high-risk lower extremity fractures.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate women with heavy menstrual bleeding that have venous thromboembolism or atrial fibrillation. There will be a comparison of the anti-coagulants; drugs rivaroxaban or apixaban to see if one of the drugs works better to control bleeding during the women's menses.
The study will compare the efficacy and safety of oral rivaroxaban and subcutaneous dalteparin in patients with cancer associated thrombosis. It is designed as a non-inferiority open label randomized multicenter trial with blinded adjudication of outcome events.
The overarching objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of LMWH/ warfarin vs. DOAC anticoagulation for preventing recurrent VTE in cancer patients. The intervention strategy is Direct Oral AntiCoagulants (DOAC) therapy with edoxaban, apixaban, rivaroxaban, or dabigatran. The comparator is low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) alone or with warfarin. The information gained will empower cancer patients and physicians to make more informed choices about anticoagulation strategies to manage VTE.
This study aims to collect patient reported outcomes and assess treatment satisfaction in active cancer patients treated with rivaroxaban for VTE (venous thromboembolism).
Among patients with a first episode of unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE), the contemporary one-year risk of detecting occult cancer is approximately 4% to 7%. Of these cases, 30% to 60% are missed by routine limited screening for cancer. RNA profiling of platelets is a promising, highly accurate biomarker for cancer detection, but its clinical utility in patients with unprovoked VTE is unknown. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of platelet RNA profiling in detecting occult cancer in patients with unprovoked venous thromboembolism. Secondary objectives include evaluation of other biomarkers for cancer, prediction of bleeding, and prediction of recurrent VTE.
The purpose of this study is to further evaluate and adjust the photoacoustic flow cytometry device and its use in detecting circulating emboli. Study Design: Cohort 1: Normal healthy volunteers will be enrolled to further adjust the device settings. Cohort 2: Use the Phatoacoustic flow cytometry (PAFC) to detect circulating emboli in vivo in patients with venous thromboembolism at diagnosis, during and after anticoagulation therapy.
The primary objective of this study is to search for, in vitro, elements associated with IgG-dependent monocyte activation (signaling pathway activation, expression of pro-coagulant and pro-inflammatory factors) and to describe their prevalence in female patients with a history of proximal venous thromboembolism (proximal deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) compared to control women.
The primary purpose of this study is to demonstrate that a continuous infusion of intravenous (IV) heparin (UFH) for Venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis will restore prophylactic levels of heparin in high-risk critically ill medical patients as compared with guideline recommended subcutaneous heparin. Antifactor Xa assay, a laboratory test to measure the anticoagulant activity of heparin, or the ability of heparin to thin the blood, will be used to demonstrate that Intravenous administration is more effective.
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) encompasses deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolus, and is the proximate cause of death in over 100,000 hospitalized patients per year. This project will critically examine the pharmacokinetics of prophylactic doses of enoxaparin in surgical patients, and will evaluate how alteration of enoxaparin dose magnitude and frequency affects peak and trough aFXa levels as well as risk for re-operative hematoma. If subtherapeutic aFXa levels are observed, the study will design, implement and test a clinical protocol to optimize post-operative aFXa levels. Although not an explicit Aim, this study will also provide important preliminary data on VTE rates in surgical patients with in range and out of range aFXa levels.
