Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract that significantly affects quality of life of patients. Several studies have reported that the loss of work productivity is significantly higher than that of the general population due to disease-related symptoms and various factors in patients with inflammatory bowel disease in Western countries, but there is few data in Korea. Therefore, this study is to assess the effect of disease on sick leave, work disability and health related quality of life in Korean patients with inflammatory bowel disease by using validated questionnaires.

Fecal Transplantation in Ulcerative Colitis

Adult individuals with ulcerative colitis in remission are given a single fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in colonoscopy. A half of the patients will receive autologous FMT as a placebo and a half will receive an FMT from a healthy donor.

Identifying Young Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients at Risk for Herpes Zoster

IBD patient are commonly treated with immunosuppression that increases the risk for Herpes Zoster. A new HZ vaccine is available that could decrease the risk of HZ in IBD patients.

Pro-active Fecal Calprotectin Monitoring PROMOTE-UC

Hypothesis: Pro-active home fecal calprotectin testing in patients with Ulcerative Colitis will allow early detection and treatment of inflammation to prevent symptomatic flares. This will result in less steroid use, fewer hospitalizations and a reduced risk of surgery, as well as improved quality of life and adherence to medication.
