NCT ID: NCT01927887 Suspended - Clinical trials for Metastatic Medullary Thyroid Cancer

Pre-Operative Nodal Staging of Thyroid Cancer Using Ultra-Small Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Magnetic Resonance Imaging (USPIO MRI): Preliminary Study

Start date: July 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this research study is to see if a specific kind of MRI can identify small and otherwise undetected abnormal lymph nodes in patients with thyroid cancer who are undergoing surgery. The MRI is called Ultra-Small Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Magnetic Resonance Imaging (USPIO MRI), and uses an experimental contrast agent (ferumoxytol), to try to identify these lymph nodes. The MRI uses magnetic waves to take images (pictures) of the body and is commonly used in medical testing. Ferumoxytol is FDA approved as an iron replacement product for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. In this research study, the investigators want to see if Ferumoxytol will help to identify very small metastases that are not usually seen on standard MRI scans. If the use of USPIO MRI with the experimental agent ferumoxytol identifies very small metastases in lymph nodes, your surgeon may decide to remove them. After the surgery, the nodes will be stored and then analyzed to assess the ability of USPIO MRI and ferumoxytol to detect cancer in very small metastases in the lymph nodes.

NCT ID: NCT01927406 Withdrawn - Glaucoma Clinical Trials

The Secondary Beneficial Effects of Prostaglandin Analog Treatment in Thyroid Eye Disease Patients.

Start date: June 2014
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential secondary beneficial effect of prostaglandin analogues (PA) treatment in thyroid eye disease (TED) patients. This study aims to determine if PA would change the course of the orbitopathy in TED patients by altering the progression of the common features of TED, including fatty hypertrophy, proptosis, eyelid retraction and optic nerve compression. The eyes with thyroid eye disease and elevated intraocular pressure will be randomised to the PA treatment and the other eye will serve as a control eye and will be treated with Timolol.

NCT ID: NCT01916018 Completed - Clinical trials for Congenital Hypothyroidism

Clinical and Genetic Analysis in Congenital Hypothyroidism Due to Thyroid Dysgenesis.

HYPOTYGEN
Start date: September 17, 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is a rare disease that affects 1 in 3500 newborn. This condition is detected consistently since the late 1970s in France, which has led to early care and a significant improvement in prognosis and intellectual stature of these children. However neurodevelopmental disorders persist in 10-15% of cases. More associated diseases have been reported in approximately 10% of cases. These observations are in most cases poorly understood. The family nature of the CH is now well recognized and a dozen genes involved up to now. However, in the majority of cases (HC not due to a disorder of the organification of iodine), few mutations have been found in the reported number of patients (5-10%), suggesting the involvement of other genes. Some of the genes have been implicated in particular specific syndromic forms but many pathological associations remain unexplained. Also, a more complete genetic elucidation of CH would enable a better understanding of its etiology and thus its risk of familial recurrence (frequently asked questions by parents of children with CH) and secondly the presence of associated pathologies. Main goal: to describe the population with CH (not due to a disorder of the organification of iodine) not only on clinical, biological and radiological (phenotypic analysis) but also on the genetic level to establish a genotype / phenotype correlation.

NCT ID: NCT01915485 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Medullary Thyroid Cancer

Radiolabeled Molecules for Medullary Thyroid Cancer

Start date: August 2013
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Medullary thyroid cancer is a neuroendocrine tumour. As so, it has somatostatin receptors in its membrane. Furthermore, very little is available to treat patients who have disease progression. The investigators hypothesized that those tumors may respond to 177-Lu-DOTA Tyr3-octreotate which is a ligand to somatostatin receptors.

NCT ID: NCT01896479 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Medullary Thyroid Cancer

A Study of Two Different Doses of Cabozantinib (XL184) in Progressive, Metastatic Medullary Thyroid Cancer

EXAMINER
Start date: December 2014
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral cabozantinib at a 60 mg dose compared with a 140 mg dose in subjects with progressive, metastatic MTC. It will test if the lower dose results in similar progression free survival (PFS) and overall response rate (ORR) with fewer adverse events compared to the PFS, ORR and adverse events found in previous clinical trials of 140 mg.

NCT ID: NCT01882816 Completed - Thyroid Cancer Clinical Trials

Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) in the Treatment of Non-Anaplastic Non-Medullary Thyroid Cancer

Start date: June 13, 2013
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this Phase 2 study is to find out what effect, good and/or bad, external beam radiation therapy, has on the patient and their thyroid cancer where surgery is not an option or where despite surgery, the disease is still present.

NCT ID: NCT01880203 Completed - Surgery Indication Clinical Trials

Diagnostic Value of Molecular Cytological Analysis (CMA) and Shear Wave Elastography ShearWave (SWE) in Patients With a Thyroid Nodule With Indeterminate Cytology: Feasibility Study

SWEETMAC
Start date: May 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to investigate the contribution of molecular cytological analysis (CMA) and shear wave elastography ShearWave (SWE) in the diagnosis of nodules with indeterminate cytology (IC)

NCT ID: NCT01876784 Completed - Clinical trials for Differentiated Thyroid Cancer

Evaluation of Efficacy, Safety of Vandetanib in Patients With Differentiated Thyroid Cancer

VERIFY
Start date: September 17, 2013
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Primary Objective: To determine the efficacy (as assessed by progression-free survival [PFS]) of vandetanib when compared to placebo in participants with differentiated thyroid cancer that is either locally advanced or metastatic who are refractory or unsuitable for radioiodine therapy. Secondary Objectives: - To determine the efficacy of vandetanib when compared to placebo in this participant population as assessed by efficacy variables including duration of response (DOR), objective response rate (ORR), change in tumour size (TS) and overall survival (OS). - To evaluate the pharmacokinetics (PK) of vandetanib in this participant population and potentially investigate any influence of participant demography and pathophysiology on vandetanib PK. - To demonstrate an improvement in time to worsening of pain (TWP) in participants treated with vandetanib when compared to placebo in this participant population. - To evaluate the safety and tolerability of vandetanib treatment in this participant population.
