Filter by:ZuraPrep is being evaluated for efficacy as a preoperative skin preparation solution to demonstrate its immediate and persistent antimicrobial properties. At least 72 subjects will be randomized utilizing bilateral applications on abdomen and groin. ZuraPrep active product and reference positive control will be compared; ZuraPrep non-active and negative control will be compared. Each subject will receive two of the planned treatments, one on the left side of body and one of the right. Study duration for subjects - 3 to 4 weeks.
1. Introduction: The most common complication of loop ileostomies closure for rectal cancer patients undergoing a low anterior rectum resection, is the superficial surgical site infection (incidence 2-40%). There are various techniques related to closing loop ileostomy. In a retrospective study at our center, the investigators objectify that superficial surgical site infection rate was reduced by more than a half by the application of a contralateral drainage (Penrose ®) in primary loop ileostomy closure. 2. Objectives and Hypothesis: Hypothesis: The application of a contralateral drainage (Penrose ®) in primary loop ileostomy closure (in carriers of loop ileostomy by a low anterior rectum resection for rectal cancer) reduces the superficial surgical site infection. Main objective: To reduce the rate of superficial surgical site infection by the application of a contralateral drainage (Penrose ®) in surgical wound of primary loop ileostomy closure. 3. Methodology: Prospective and randomized clinical trial on the effectiveness of contralateral Penrose® drainage implementation in those patients that have a primary loop ileostomy (by low anterior rectum resection) closure to be able to know if the investigators can reduce the superficial surgical site infection rate. Monitorization until 30 days after surgery
This is a double blind randomized trial in which patients with colorectal cancer undergoing surgery will be selected to receive either a symbiotic formulation or placebo. The researchers will compare incidence of surgical site infection between the study groups.
This study was designed to determine the role of antibiotics reduction mammaplasty influence surgical site infections rates.
Surgical site infections are a major postoperative complication and are mostly due to colonization with endogenous germs, like Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis or Propionibacterium acnes. In literature, preoperative decolonization procedures showed a trend in lowering surgical site infection rates, but especially in orthopedic surgery data is controversial and randomized controlled trials are lacking. In the main study, the study investigators aim at performing a controlled prospective randomized interventional trial to measure the impact of preoperative decolonization of nasal Staphylococcus aureus carriers on surgical site infection rates in orthopedic surgery. In an alongside study a controlled prospective randomized interventional trial to measure the impact of preoperative skin decolonization of patients undergoing an orthopedic procedure will be conducted.
This study will evaluate the safety of povidone-iodine irrigation in pediatric spinal patients by collecting pre- and post-operative safety labwork. Furthermore, the efficacy of povidone-iodine and normal saline irrigation at reducing bacterial contamination of the surgical wound will be measured by collecting cultures before and after irrigation.
Many strategies have been attempted to reduce SSI rates. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services introduced the Surgical Care Improvement Project infection project with the aim of reducing SSI incidence and morbidity. These measures include prophylactic intravenous antibiotics administered within 1 hour of skin incision, appropriate prophylactic antibiotic selection, discontinuation of prophylactic antibiotics within 24 hours after surgery, appropriate hair removal, and maintenance of perioperative normothermia. Despite the enforcement of these measures through quality reporting and pay-for-performance measures, significant controversy exists as to their overall effectiveness, especially in the high-risk colorectal surgical population. Laparoscopic surgery has been shown to improve SSI rates in the colorectal population; however, not all patients are appropriate candidates for this approach and the inability of promising interventions such as wound edge protection and gentamicin sponges to improve SSI rates following colorectal surgery mandate the investigation of novel techniques. The aim of the current study is to assess the clinical effectiveness of incisional NPWT to reduce SSI rates in open, re-operative colorectal surgery. The primary endpoint of this study is the occurrence of superficial SSI within 30 days after surgery and the secondary endpoints include length of hospital stay and cost effectiveness.
Routine antibiotics for the intravenous and oral prophylaxis of colorectal surgery will be used. Experimental group: Patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery that involves, colonic resection. The antibiotic prophylaxis in this group will be composed of: An oral antibiotic pattern of ciprofloxacin (750mg / 12h, 2 doses) and metronidazole (250mg / 8h, 3 doses) the day before surgery. + Control group: Patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery that involves, colonic resection. The antibiotic prophylaxis in this group will be composed of: An intravenous antibiotic pattern of cefuroxime 1g and metronidazole 1,5gr during anesthetic induction. In both groups a second intravenous dose of cefuroxime (750mg) will be administered if the intraoperative time elongates more than three hours or there is an intraoperative bleeding over 1000cc. There won´t be a placebo treatment. Subject compliance will be evaluated according to the usual practice in surgical care field
The principal aim of the present research is to compare two methods of antibiotic delivery: concomitant tumescent antibiotic delivery (TAD) and intravenous antibiotic delivery (IVAD) versus IVAD alone, (TAD+IVAD vs IVAD), with respect to the prevention of surgical site infections (SSI). The investigators hypothesize that TAD+IVAD will significantly reduce the incidence of SSI compared to IVAD. TAD is the subcutaneous infiltration of a dilute solution of antibiotic(s) in a solution of tumescent local anesthesia (TLA). TLA consists of a dilute solution of lidocaine (1gm/L), epinephrine (1mg/L) and sodium bicarbonate (10mEq/L) in 0.9% physiologic saline. A secondary aim of this study is to compare TAD+IVAD vs IVAD with respect to the prevention of post-operative venous thromboembolism (VTE).
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of PTNi therapy versus PTN therapy without instillation in the treatment of infected surgical wounds. Investigators mean to verify differences of effectiveness between the different types of instilled substances, normal saline versus Amukine Med 0.5%.
