Filter by:Substance use disorder (SUD) is a dynamic process that changes constantly over time with new trends of drug dependence emerge every now and then, thus timely information about trends in psychoactive substance use could yield tailored interventions and reduce potential harms. Identifying personal, social, and demographic characteristics of patients with this disorder at the local, regional, and national levels helps physicians, health authorities, and policy-makers detect early emerging trends and enable them better plan and implement prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation programs. This study aims to identify sociodemographic, personal characteristics, as well as patterns of illicit drug abuse in patients admitted for addiction treatment.
The purpose of the study is to compare a text message-based mental health and substance use screening and referral to a treatment program, called Listening to Women and Pregnant and Postpartum People (LTWP), to standard of care in-person mental health and substance use screening to look at rates of treatment attendance and retention in treatment. Participation would involve completing online questionnaires. You may be eligible to participate if you are age 18-45 years, are pregnant and entering prenatal care in one of MUSC's OB clinics, and attended a prenatal appointment at an MUSC clinic.
The aims of this observational survey are to 1) collect data on the prevalence of mental and substance use disorders, and 2) investigate risk factors and consequences of mental and substance use disorder
The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of mobile interventions in reducing craving and lapses in patients diagnosed with Substance Use Disorder. In a two-armed, randomized controlled trial the efficacy of self-guided psychological intervention delivered via a mobile app (NaĆogometr 2.0) will be assessed. During the course of three months, participants will have access to intervention modules, based mainly on mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). With the use of ecological momentary assessment (EMA), longitudinal data on several variables related to craving and lapse risk will be collected. Additionally, a questionnaire battery assessment - administered monthly - will measure severity of substance dependence, levels of anxiety, depression, and life satisfaction.
This 3-year Hybrid Type 1 study will randomize 208 people with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders (COD) referred from the Worcester Hub. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of MISSION, a multi-component team approach, versus linkage with a Peer Specialist on improving outcomes among individuals with CODs. We expect that individuals receiving MISSION versus linkage only will show greater improvement in treatment engagement, substance use, and mental health outcomes. This study will also concurrently conduct a process evaluation to inform sustainability and future implementation of such interventions.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effectiveness of an integrated infectious disease/substance use disorder (SUD) clinical team intervention approach in patients hospitalized with severe injection-related infections (SIRI) who use drugs. The main question this study aims to answer is whether this intervention approach will be associated with lower mortality and fewer hospital readmissions. Participants will participate in the integrated SUD/ID care team intervention (SIRI Team). Researchers will compare this intervention to treatment as usual (TUA) to see if there are any differences in health outcomes.
The purpose of this clinical trial study is to see if Bergamot, an aroma therapy essential oil, has any effect on comfort, ease, and stress. Participants will be asked to use a bergamot aroma inhaler, which is a small tube about the size of a lipstick container, at least three times a day for one week. Comfort, ease, and stress will be measured with self-report survey at the beginning and at the end of the week. In addition, participants will be asked to complete a daily logbook to record use of the inhaler. The study lasts for one week (7 days). The aims of this study are to explore the effects of Bergamot essential oil on comfort, ease, and stress in adults in a SUD treatment program, and to evaluate the feasibility of this type of aroma therapy intervention.
This study is the first part of a larger project called "Virtual Reality (VR) as a facilitator for participation in society among persons with mental health/substance use disorders" in which aims to explore,develop and evaluate a VR-based paradigm that facilitates social participation and promotes social recovery of individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders (MHD/SUD). The overall project comprises three work packages: an exploration study, a development study, and an evaluation study. This study will make up work package 1. The primary aim of this study (WP1) is to explore facilitators and barriers for participation in society among person with MHD/SUD, and to provide an understanding of mechanisms of social participation and social cohesion among persons with MHD/ SUD that may be affected by VR-based interventions. The investigators will derive a socio-emotional learning domain to facilitate key interpersonal and social processes among persons with MHD/SUD in VR-based interventions. To achieve the purpose of this study, the invistigators conduct 10 indepth interviews with service-user with MHD/SUD, 2 focus group interviews with 14 service-providers and an interview-survey with 100 service users. This gives the investigators the possibility to explore facilitators and barriers for social participation as experienced as by individuals with MHD/SUD and identify key interpersonal and social processes suitable to be addressed by tailored VR based interventions.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention delivered on a smartphone. This study examines whether this intervention might improve treatment outcomes for people with substance use disorders. The intervention, called Laddr®, is a smartphone application ("app") that provides information and skills that can help people stop using substances. The social version of Laddr® being tested in this study has new features that allow people in treatment for substance use disorders to include a support person in their treatment journey, including a friend, family member, or other acquaintance. This research study will compare the effectiveness of Laddr® in combination with standard outpatient substance use treatment to standard treatment only for substance use disorders.
