Filter by:The purpose of this study is to determine what effects (good and bad) bevacizumab (Avastin) and docetaxel (Taxotere), used in combination, have on metastatic gastric and esophageal cancer.
Purpose: There remains a great need for novel therapeutic agents and treatment strategies for advanced esophagogastric cancer. Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated increased EGFR expression in a significant proportion of both esophageal and gastric carcinomas. Inactivation of EGFR through use of a monoclonal antibody in preclinical models has resulted in inhibition of tumor growth. Agents designed to block the EGFR pathway have demonstrated disease control among previously treated patients with metastatic esophageal and gastric cancer. The proposed mechanism of action for cetuximab is its ability to effectively disrupt EGFR-mediated signal transduction pathways that ultimately leads to halting cell cycle progression, induces apoptosis, and also inhibits processes important for tumor growth, such as cell invasion and angiogenesis.
The purpose of this study is to determine the side-effects and effectiveness of a new type of chemoradiotherapy treatment for patients who have had surgery for stomach cancer. The treatment uses epirubicin, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (ECF) chemotherapy together with radiotherapy.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of splenectomy in potentially curative total gastrectomy for proximal gastric carcinoma in terms of survival benefit and post-operative morbidity.

This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of alvespimycin hydrochloride in treating patients with metastatic or unresectable solid tumors. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as alvespimycin hydrochloride, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die.
This will be an international, multicenter, uncontrolled, 2-stage, phase II study in adult patients with advanced gastric cancer, reasonable performance status, good organ function, lack of serious concomitant medical conditions. Patients must have progressed or recurred after a fluoropyrimidine-containing regimen at anytime for primary metastatic disease or within 6 months of last dose of adjuvant therapy. Twenty-one evaluable patients will be enrolled in Stage 1. If at least 2 objective tumor responses are observed in the first 21 evaluable patients, the study will be expanded to enroll a total of 41 evaluable patients. Edotecarin will be administered at a starting dose of 13 mg/m2 as an IV infusion over 60 minutes in repeated 3-week cycles treatment.

Giving more than one chemotherapy drug may kill more tumor cells. This phase II trial is studying how well giving oxaliplatin together with irinotecan and capecitabine works in treating patients with metastatic or inoperable locally advanced gastric cancer or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (cancer).
This phase II trial is studying how well giving irinotecan and cisplatin together with bevacizumab works in treating patients with unresectable or metastatic gastric (stomach) or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (cancer). Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as irinotecan and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Monoclonal antibodies such as bevacizumab can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. Giving chemotherapy together with a monoclonal antibody may kill more tumor cells.
RATIONALE: Bortezomib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for their growth. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of bortezomib in treating patients who have unresectable or metastatic gastric cancer or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
