Filter by:The combination of capecitabine and oxaliplatin as 'backbone' regimen, adding a newer biologic agent, cetuximab, is a reasonable strategy of further chemotherapy development in advanced gastric cancer, which is the investigators study rationale.
RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Cetuximab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for their growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin and irinotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving cetuximab together with cisplatin and irinotecan may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving cetuximab together with cisplatin and irinotecan works in treating patients with metastatic esophageal cancer, gastroesophageal junction cancer, or gastric cancer that did not respond to previous irinotecan and cisplatin.
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of erlotinib hydrochloride when given together with cetuximab and to see how well they work in treating patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer, head and neck cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, or colorectal cancer. Erlotinib hydrochloride may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Erlotinib hydrochloride and cetuximab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving erlotinib hydrochloride together with cetuximab may kill more tumor cells.
This study is being done to find out what effects a drug named/called bevacizumab has on patients and patients' tumors when given together with standard chemotherapy drugs. Making new blood vessels seems to be important for many tumors to grow. Bevacizumab is a new type of treatment for cancer that blocks the growth of new tumor blood vessels. In this study, the researchers will combine bevacizumab with chemotherapy drugs that are standard for the patient's disease and include cisplatin, docetaxel, fluorouracil, and leucovorin. The way the original combination of cisplatin, docetaxel, and fluorouracil was given caused many side effects including gastrointestinal symptoms, weakness, and a drop in the blood count of infection fighting cells. For this study, the researchers have modified this combination to give lower doses of the medicines more often, to reduce side effects from the chemotherapy. Patients will receive bevacizumab with this modified combination of docetaxel, cisplatin, and fluorouracil. This study is called a phase II study. In this study, everyone will have similar tumors and receive the same treatment.
This phase II study addressed the use of docetaxel in combination with oxaliplatin with or without 5-FU or capecitabine in metastatic or locally recurrent gastric cancer previously untreated with chemotherapy for advanced disease. Prior to this study a pilot phase I (part I) determined the optimal dose by assessing the safety and tolerability of 2 dose levels in each arm. The optimal dose was administered in the Part II study. Participants who received the optimal dose in each treatment arm in Part I were included in the Part II analysis population. Primary objective: - To assess the time to progression (TTP) of Docetaxel in combination with Oxaliplatin with or without 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) or Capecitabine in metastatic or locally recurrent gastric cancer previously untreated with chemotherapy for advanced disease (part II). Secondary objectives: - To establish the safety profile. - To assess the Overall Response Rate (ORR) based on the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria - To assess the Overall Survival (OS)
RATIONALE: Zinc supplements may lower cadmium levels in smokers and may help prevent DNA damage. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well zinc supplements work in lowering cadmium levels in smokers.
1.Study rationale:There is no standard regimen for the advanced and/or metastatic gastric cancer patients who relapsed after adjuvant chemotherapy or failed to first systemic chemotherapy. 2.Primary Objectives:To evaluate overall response rate according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria and To investigate time to response 3.Design:single-center, Open label, Phase II study. docetaxel 75mg/m2 administered on day 1 as intravenously combined with intravenous Epirubicin 60mg/m2 given day 2 every 3 weeks. 4.Primary endpoints: 1. Efficacy:overall response rate according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria, time to response, duration of response, and time to treatment failure. 2. Safety-Adverse events and laboratory tests, graded according to the NCI Common Toxicity Criteria for Adverse Effects (version 3.0).
The purpose of this study is to determine the dose limiting toxicity and the maximum tolerable dose of the radiochemotherapy with Docetaxel and Oxaliplatin in patients with adenocarcinoma of the gastric-oesophageal junction.
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of 2 different sequences of polychemotherapy among carrying patients of a adenocarcinoma of the stomach or cardia locally advanced or metastatic.
RATIONALE: Stop-smoking plans, including counseling and nicotine replacement therapy, may help smokers quit smoking. It is not yet known whether counseling and the nicotine lozenge is more effective than counseling and the nicotine patch in helping adult smokers quit smoking. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying counseling and the nicotine lozenge to see how well they work compared to counseling and the nicotine patch in helping smokers quit smoking.
