Prehabilitation Soft-Tissue Sarcoma of Lower Limb

This study is about preparing people with cancerous tumours, soft-tissue sarcoma (STS), in the leg to recover more quickly from surgery. Prehabilitation or "surgery school" is done before surgery while undergoing other cancer-related treatments. To test this idea, two groups will be formed. One group will have the prehabilitation program and the other group will have the same amount of attention from the research team who will visit them at the time of the radiotherapy sessions to provide support and any information they may need.The results of the study will indicate whether it is a good idea to conduct a bigger study that would involve many centres in Canada.

Translation and Validation of the German Version of the Toronto Extremity Salvage Score (TESS) and Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS)

The MSTS is an evaluation tool used worldwide to assess physical function in patients with musculoskeletal tumors. The questionnaire has already been successfully translated and validated in Portuguese and Japanese. Both the TESS and the MSTS have already been used in many studies that examined bone and soft tissue tumors - also in German-speaking populations. So far, however, there is no validated German version of these questionnaires. The aim of the study at hand is to translate the TESS and the MSTS into German and to validate them for patients with bone and soft tissue tumors / sarcomas.

Implantable Microdevice for the Delivery of Drugs and Their Effect on Tumors in Patients With Metastatic or Recurrent Sarcoma

This early phase I trial studies the side effects of implanting and removing a microdevice in patients with sarcomas that have spread to other places in the body (metastatic) or have come back (recurrent). Microdevices are rice-sized devices that are implanted into tumor tissue and are loaded with 10 different drugs that are delivered at very small doses, or "microdoses," which may only affect a very small, local area inside the tumor. The purpose of this study is to determine which drugs delivered in the microdevice affect tumor tissue in patients with sarcomas.

Cancer is a global health issue. According to the World Health Organization, Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, and is responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. In Israel, more than 30,000 new cases of cancer were diagnosed, and more than 11,000 deaths were cancer-related during 2016. Imaging plays a pivotal role in cancer management, and multiple techniques are used in all phases of cancer management. The overall morphological, structural, metabolic and functional information obtained in imaging is used for improved individualized therapy planning. Different imaging modalities are available during different time points in the natural history of different malignancies: Early detection of cancer through screening based on imaging is probably a major contributor to a reduction in mortality for certain cancers . Once a diagnosis is made, determining the clinical stage of cancer, meaning the extent of the disease before any treatment is given, is a critical element in determining appropriate treatment based on the experience and outcomes of groups of previous patients with similar stage . Precise clinical staging of cancer is crucial. Not only that this clear non-ambiguous description is a key factor that defines prognosis, it is also a chief component of inclusion, exclusion, and stratification criteria for clinical trials. Several cancer staging systems are used worldwide. The most clinically useful staging system is the tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging system developed by the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) in collaboration with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The AJCC TNM system classifies cancers by the size and extent of the primary tumor (T), involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence or absence of distant metastases (M). There is a TNM staging algorithm for cancers of virtually every anatomic site and histology, with the primary exception of pediatric cancers. The clinical TNM (cTNM) classification should be used to determine correctly the clinical stage of cancer and to help guide primary therapy planning.

The study objectives of this phase I study are to determine the safety, activity and the safe dose of haploidentical or allogeneic NKG2DL-targeting chimeric antigen receptor-grafted γδ T cells given four times weekly in patients with relapsed or refractory solid tumors of different types.
