Filter by:RATIONALE: Specialized radiation therapy that delivers a high dose of radiation directly to the tumor may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue. Giving radiation therapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying the side effects of intensity-modulated radiation therapy and to see how well it works in treating patients undergoing surgery for stage IB, stage II, or stage III soft tissue sarcoma.
The purpose of this study is to determine if FDA approved food safety guidelines are equivalent to a low bacterial diet (the neutropenic diet) with respect to the acquisition of infections during neutropenia in a sample of pediatric cancer patients.
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of cixutumumab given together with doxorubicin hydrochloride and to see how well they work in treating patients with unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic soft tissue sarcoma. Monoclonal antibodies, such as cixutumumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as doxorubicin hydrochloride, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving monoclonal antibody cixutumumab together with doxorubicin hydrochloride may kill more tumor cells.
This is a randomized, controlled trial to evaluate the clinical benefit of palifosfamide tris administered with doxorubicin in combination, compared with single-agent doxorubicin administered in subjects diagnosed with unresectable or metastatic soft-tissue sarcoma (STS). Subjects who meet the entry criteria will be randomized into 1 of 2 arms: either to receive palifosfamide tris plus doxorubicin or treatment with single-agent doxorubicin. Subjects will be anthracyclin naïve.
The purpose of the study is to determine the safety and efficacy of single agent CC-4047 (pomalidomide) in patients with advanced soft tissue sarcomas who have relapsed or are refractory to prior anticancer therapy.
RATIONALE: Sodium thiosulfate may reduce or prevent hearing loss in young patients receiving cisplatin for cancer. It is not yet known whether sodium thiosulfate is more effective than no additional treatment in preventing hearing loss. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying sodium thiosulfate to see how well it works in preventing hearing loss in young patients receiving cisplatin for newly diagnosed germ cell tumor, hepatoblastoma, medulloblastoma, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, or other malignancy.
RATIONALE: Sorafenib and pemetrexed may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Sorafenib may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving sorafenib together with pemetrexed and cisplatin may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of sorafenib when given together with pemetrexed and cisplatin in treating patients with advanced solid tumors.
The primary objective of the study is to compare the progression-free survival (PFS) in the 2 treatment arms The secondary objectives of the study are : - To compare the overall survival in the 2 treatment arms - To compare the objective response rate in the 2 treatment arms - To assess the safety profile of AVE8062 (in combination with the background cisplatin therapy) - To assess the pharmacokinetics of AVE8062 and its main metabolite, RPR258063, using a population approach, in all patients enrolled in selected centers.
RATIONALE: Diagnostic procedures, such as anal swab collection, digital rectal examination, and anal endoscopy and biopsy, may help find and diagnose anal and genital human papillomavirus infection and squamous intraepithelial lesions and help doctors plan better treatment. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying ways to detect anal and genital human papillomavirus infection and squamous intraepithelial lesions in HIV-positive patients enrolled in an AIDS cancer clinical trial.
F18-FDG is the widely used PET tracer in the routine practice of oncologic disease imaging using the technology of PET-CT. However, FDG-avidity is a characteristic of the individual tumor. There are various types of human malignancies, which are not taking FDG in access. In these cases FDG is not a sensitive tracer of imaging. In search for other tumor PET tracers, C11-Acetate has been shown recently in a few early studies to have a potential value in imaging of non-FDG-avid tumors. The purpose of the current study is to assess the role of 11C-acetate PET in various tumors, which often are not detected by 18F-FDG and were not widely assessed until now.
