Transplant Navigator Dissemination

Primary Aim A. To disseminate and determine the impact of streamlined navigation on wait listing and number of transplants. The navigator will provide tailored information and assistance to help dialysis patients complete the tasks required at each step in the transplant process. In the control group, dialysis patients will continue to get usual care from their nephrologists and dialysis facility personnel. Hypothesis: Compared to control patients, intervention patients will be significantly more likely to be wait listed or receive a kidney transplant.

Urinary Markers for Unilateral Kidney Obstruction

Renal colic is usually caused from an obstructing stone along the ureter. Some of the patients present with a high level of creatinin in the blood, even though there is a normal functioning contralateral kidney. Furthermore creatinin is not an ideal marker for renal function during acute changes. Several works have shown that modern urinary markers such as NGAL (neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin), KIM-1 (Kidney Injury Molecule-1) and others rise earlier and are much more sensitive for kidney insult. There is a lack of research on their role in acute kidney obstruction

Evaluate efficacy and safety of 16 weeks of titrated dose treatment with BAY85-3934 versus epoetin alfa/beta as measured by hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Fixed starting doses of 25, 50,75 and 150 mg of BAY85-3934 titrated at the scheduled dose control visits. Titration will be based on the subject's Hb response and tolerability of the prior dose. Planned doses include 15, 25, 50, 75, 100,150 and 200 mg/day

Each center will complete a retrospective chart review for the data on patient survival, graft survival and renal function.
