Effects of Smartphone Use on Posture, Pain, Function and QoL

The sample of the study consists of university students. According to the scores they got from the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version, all participants will be divided into two groups. The neck and shoulder posture, pain, and functions, and the quality of life will be compared between the two groups.

Low Pressure Pneumoperitoneum and Deep Neuromuscular Block Versus Standard Laparoscopy During Robot Assisted Radical Prostatectomy to Improve the Quality of Recovery and Immune Homeostasis; Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Study.

Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) needed to create sufficient workspace during laparoscopic surgery affects the surrounding organs with ischemia-reperfusion injury and a systemic immune response. This effect is related to postoperative recovery, pain scores, opioid consumption, bowel function recovery, morbidity and possibly mortality. In clinical practice standard pressures of 12-16mmHg are applied instead of the lowest possible IAP, but accumulating evidence shows lower pressure pneumoperitoneum (PNP) (6-8mmHg) to be non-compromising for sufficient workspace, when combined with deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) in a vast majority of patients. Therefore, low impact laparoscopy, meaning low pressure PNP facilitated by deep NMB, could be a valuable addition to Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Protocols. The use of low pressure PNP may also reduce hypoxic injury and the release of DAMPs and thereby contributing to a better preservation of innate immune function which may help to reduce the risk of infectious complications. The participants will be randomly assigned to one of the experimental groups with low impact laparoscopy or one of the control groups with standard laparoscopy.

Web-based ACT to Support Parents With Children With Chronic and Developmental Conditions

Parents of children with a chronic disease or functional disabilities have an increased risk of stress-related distress and reduced quality of life. Internet-delivered interventions are one way to reach out to exhausted parents who may often have challenges in finding time to access face-to-face services. We developed a guided web-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention for Finnish parents of children with chronic conditions or functional disabilities. Participants (N=100) will be recruited on parent associations' Facebook groups and randomly assigned to guided web-based ACT condition and a control condition receiving psychoeducation. The guided web-based ACT condition will receive a 10-week web intervention including three remote meetings with a psychologist through the telemedicine application Doxy.me. Symptoms of burnout (SMBQ), depression (PHQ), health-related quality of life (RAND-36), mindfulness (FFMQ), general measure of psychological flexibility (CompACT) as well as the wellbeing of their child (KINDL) will be measured before (pre) and after the intervention (post), at 7-month (follow-up 1) and 10-month (follow-up 2) after the pre-measurement. In this randomized controlled trial we will investigate the outcomes and the mechanisms of change of the web-based ACTintervention. In addition, we will examine the acceptability of the web-based intervention.

Evaluation of Acupuncture Effects for Complications After Surgery of Cerebellopontine Angle Tumor in Skull Base

Skull base tumors are a type of tumor that grow in the area of several skulls behind the cranial cavity. The incidence rate is 2 to 18 per 100,000 people per year; males and females are likely to have a proportional difference in the types of skull base tumors. Cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumors are the most common neoplasms in the posterior skull base,accounting for 5-10% of skull base tumors.Some different kinds of tumors can grow in cerebellopontine angle. The tumors are more likely to cause some symptoms when they grow large enough to put pressure on the brain. A common traditional treatment for skull base tumors is neurosurgery-craniotomy. However, after the operation, brain may be injured with hematoma, and the instruments used are in contact with the brain. It is still inevitable that there will have complications of minor and major nerve damages, such as facial paralysis,trigeminal neuralgia, tinnitus, sports disorders (ataxia) and so on. Acupuncture has a unique effect on the treatment of the human nervous system. Aim of the study is used acupuncture to improve the complications of the surgery of Cerebellopontine angle tumors in skull base.

Quality of Life Comparison in Patients With Different Types of Alopecia

Hair loss is a frequent cause of patient consultation in dermatology. It is known to have a strong impact on patients' quality of life for many reasons; such as esthetic aspect, financial implications, social consequences. Numerous studies have assessed the impact of some types of alopecia on patients' quality of life. One study compared the quality of life in patients with scarring alopecia with patients of non-scarring alopecia. No studies have compared quality of life between the different types of scarring alopecia nor different types of non-scarring alopecia. However, none have assessed the impact on the patient partner quality of life. In addition, few treatments for alopecia are covered by national health insurance in France. The main objective is to compare the impact on the quality of life in different types of alopecia. By using the average scores of the questionnaire Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) for each type of alopecia.

Many cancers are being treated more effectively nowadays due to the raised awareness and early detection as well as advancement in researches and technology. Despite the rising number of cancer survivors in the coming years, these survivors are still plagued by the poor quality of life due to physical and psychological impairment. According to the National Cancer Registry Report from 2007-2011, haematological cancer is one of the ten most common cancers in Malaysian population. Many haematological cancer survivors in Malaysia are reportedly having poor quality of life due to multiple physical and emotional impairments which leads to further disability in life. It is thus an important effort to identify the rehabilitation needs in these cancer survivors to implement alternatives to improve the disease outcome through cancer rehabilitation.
