Psychotherapy Effects on Reward Processing in PTSD

PERPP
Start date: March 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to identify how trauma-focused psychotherapy changes the function of brain circuitry in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how this mediates improvements in the diminished ability to experience positive emotions following a traumatic or extremely stressful life event. In this instance, the investigators will be using cognitive processing therapy (CPT), a widely-utilized and evidence-based treatment for PTSD.

NCT ID: NCT06065865 Recruiting - PTSD Clinical Trials

'Effectively Intervening in Traumatized Parents and Young Children After Structural Domestic Violence: A Multiple Baseline Analysis'

Start date: January 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an individualized treatment trajectory in which the order of trauma therapy for the parent (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy), trauma therapy for the child (EMDR therapy) and attachment-based therapy (Dutch short-term intervention for atypical parenting behavior (NIKA)) is tailored towards the complex needs of victimized parents and their young children (4-6 y/o) after domestic violence. The treatment trajectory is based on a guidance document that supports therapists to determine the optimal order of interventions based on a standardized set of factors. The primary goals of this study are: 1. To examine how post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-symptoms of parent and child and parental sensitive and disruptive parenting behavior develop and interact over time, while they follow the individualized treatment trajectory. 2. To test whether the start of the treatment trajectory (e.g. the phase in which parents can receive NIKA and EMDR therapy and their child can receive EMDR therapy) leads to a decrease in disruptive parenting behavior towards the child, an increase in sensitive parenting behavior towards the child, and a decrease in PTSD symptoms of the parent in comparison to the baseline phase. 3. To test whether the start of the treatment trajectory (e.g. the phase in which children can receive EMDR therapy and their parent can receive NIKA and EMDR therapy) leads to a decrease in PTSD symptoms of the child in comparison to the baseline phase.

Self-Management Interventions After an ICD Shock

Start date: December 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study, "Biobehavioral Intervention to Reduce PTSD Symptoms After an ICD Shock," addresses a critical need in cardiology care by describing the feasibility and acceptability of a timely, highly promising, electronically-delivered intervention for patients who have recently received an ICD delivered shock. The study intervention and outcomes are designed to reduce anxiety, enhance return to activities of daily living (ADLs), and prevent the development of severe distress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and ultimately promote quality of life. The study is a two-arm, embedded mixed methods, randomized trial (N=60, 30/group). The purpose is to determine feasibility and potential effects of a self-management intervention (SPSM) plus usual care (UC) compared to UC alone, delivered during the critical 1 month period after an ICD shock when distress is high. The intervention will be delivered over 1 month following an ICD shock; a 6-month follow-up will be used to assess the sustainability of intervention effects and determine if the incidence of PTSD is reduced. SPSM includes: 1) training in heart rate (HR) self-monitoring; and 2) individualized learning through 4 self-paced, web-based modules. The study interventions are delivered at a crucial time, closely after an ICD shock when stress is high, but PTSD has not yet developed. The specific aims are to: 1) examine the effects of the SPSM intervention plus UC vs. UC alone on the primary outcome of ICD shock anxiety at 1 and 6 months post-shock event, 2) describe the impact of SPSM plus UC compared to UC alone on the secondary outcomes of total daily physical activity, depression, PTSD symptoms, QOL, salivary cortisol levels, and self-efficacy and outcome expectations at 1 and 6 months post-shock event, and 3) assess feasibility, acceptability, and safety of the SPSM intervention, SDOH will be used to describe differential responses to the SPSM intervention. This study fills a significant gap in the care of patients with an ICD, through the systematic testing of a brief, novel and cost-effective intervention that provides the knowledge and skills to improve quality of life. Study findings will be used to design future larger RCTs to test intervention effectiveness for more diverse samples and settings.

Connectivity Changes Associated With Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD

CONCHKAP
Start date: December 31, 2023
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the effects of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy [KAP] on individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD]. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Does KAP improve symptoms of PTSD? 2. What changes in brain network connectivity are seen with KAP?

Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART) Study

SMART
Start date: June 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will investigate whether a movement and body-based treatment can benefit adults with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The treatment is called Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment, or "SMART", and study participation involves 8 sessions of SMART, as well as pre-treatment, post-treatment, and 3-month follow-up assessments.

NCT ID: NCT06019767 Recruiting - PTSD Clinical Trials

Peer-led Trauma Therapy for Re-entry

Start date: November 14, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the research is to learn more about how to treat PTSD for people directly impacted by incarceration (i.e., have spent time in prison or jail). This research will help identify if a PTSD treatment group that is used in community settings, and led by individuals with lived experience, is helpful in reducing PTSD symptoms among people who have been directly impacted by incarceration. Participants will complete an interview to determine whether they are experiencing PTSD, and if so, will participate in a 6-week therapy group treatment.

Pilot Trial of Mobile Mantram Delivery

mMRP
Start date: December 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Mantram Repetition Program (MRP) is a meditation practice that involves silent repetition of a spiritual word, one-pointed attention, and slowing down. It has been shown to help reduce PTSD symptoms among Veterans. This study will look at how Veterans reach to learning MRP via the Internet, either in a self-directed way or with text/phone support.
