Study of the Emergence of Sensory Self-awareness in Premature Newborns Using the Rooting Reflex

The main objective is to demonstrate the presence of the rooting reflex in premature and the emergence of sensory self-awareness in premature by showing a difference in the response of the rooting reflex to external tactile stimulation and to facilitated tactile self-stimulation during quiet wakefulness. The main hypothesis is to confirm the tactile skills of the very premature newborn in exploring the rooting reflex and then to evaluate the emergence of sensory self-awareness. The investigators assume a difference in response in favour of a greater response of the newborn to external tactile stimulation compared to facilitated self-stimulation in favour of the distinction between self and non-self showing the emergence of a sensory awareness of self in the preterm newborn.

Intestinal Perfusion After Feeding in Preterm and Term Infants

Early DHA Supplementation in Growth-restricted Very Preterm Infants: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Growth-restricted very preterm infants (VPT) are born without adequate fat mass (FM) deposits and low docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) concentrations. They often experience further declines in DHA concentrations during the initial three weeks post-birth while advancing enteral feeds and receiving lipid supplementation predominantly through parenteral nutrition. These suboptimal enteral and parenteral nutrition practices significantly heighten the risk of faltering postnatal growth. One promising approach to mitigate these issues is enteral DHA supplementation. However, it remains unclear whether the early administration of DHA through enteral supplementation could lead to a more substantial increase in head growth without affecting FM accretion in growth-restricted VPT infants. To address this question, we propose a masked randomized clinical trial involving 152 VPT infants.

Oral Motor Intervention to Preterms by Their Mothers

Babies who have been discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit and have difficulty in oral feeding will be identified. Oral Motor Intervention (PIOMI) will be taught to the mothers of these babies and asked to practice. Enteral Feeding of Premature Babies and Olive Oil Supplementation

It is a two-arm prospective interventional study. 40 babies in both groups will be enrolment in the study. In the intervention group, babies will take 1 ml/kg/day of the study product (ULTRA PREMIUM) after full enteral feeding. Supplementation will continue until discharge or the 36th week. Blood samples will be taken for serum Total antioxidant capacity and Malondialdehyde levels before the intervention and on the 14th day of the control group. At the end of the study, serum will be taken again for control values. Daily lipid intake amounts will be recorded through breast milk analysis. Lipid profile will be monitored weekly The growth parameters of babies will be monitored daily It will be evaluated at the end of the study in terms of ROP, BPD, and NEC. At the end of the study, the data of babies in both groups will be compared.

Effects of Touch on Brain Connectivity and Metabolic Biomarkers in Preterm Infants

Improving the quality of life of preterm children by 2035 is the top priority of worldwide health organisations, including the WHO. Every year, 15 million preterm infants, particularly those under 32 weeks of age, are at significant risk of neurocognitive impairments with adverse health consequences (disability, developmental delay, disease), exacerbated by the lack of post-hospital care for newborns. Intervening on the health of the preterm newborn through certain types of "touch" from its first days of life to activate its cutaneous senses permits, in reality, a significant improvement in the clinical state of the infant, hence promoting its growth, development, and social behaviour. In the neonatal period, during which significant neurological development occurs, tactile interactions and close physical proximity between infants and caregivers have significant short-term effects on the health of premature infants (weight gain, brain and vision development) and medium- to long-term effects on their development and expression of sociability. The likelihood that a premature newborn may develop attention and autism spectrum disorders, brain, gastrointestinal, and respiratory difficulties, as well as sleep disorders during the preschool years, is so high that clinical and social settings must prioritise care. Utilizing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fRMI), computerized electroencephalogram (EEG), and metabolomics, the research aims to explore the effects of touch, including physiotherapy and manual therapy (OMT) approaches, on brain activity. This research intends to examine the impact of touch on premature infants' brain activity (physical biomarker) and metabolic activity (biological biomarker).

The Effect of Metaverse-Based Nursing Skills Laboratory

Depending on the education system, the increasing number of students, inadequate practice/skill laboratories, a small number of lecturers and students with limited time in the clinic have a negative impact on obtaining appropriate clinical experience. The virtual learning environment experience will prepare the student for the clinic in the most realistic way and will reduce the risk of errors in clinical care and treatment. In light of this information, presenting the learning environment of the future to the student will prepare the student both in the clinical practice area and in the professional environment as self-confident and highly equipped The study was planned with a mixed method consisting of single-blind randomized controlled experiment and focus group interview methods. The research was planned to be carried out during the pediatric nursing course period between 2023-2024 Fall Semester October-December. Participants will be students taking a pediatric nursing course. Scales and Forms to be used in the Study; Informed Consent and Demographic Data Collection Form, Expert Opinion Form, Proficiency Scale for Nursing Students, Augmented Reality Applications Attitude Scale, Pre and Post Test, Student Case Form, • Focus Group Interview Form and Distance Education Satisfaction Scale of university life. The universe of the research consists of all students who take and continue the 2023 - 2024 fall term child health and diseases nursing course (N: 190). It will try to reach the universe where the sample selection of the research will not be made. To measure the learning efficiency of pediatric nursing students in infant orogastric tube care application in two different skill laboratories, considering the feeding pattern from Gordon's Functional Health patterns. (University skills lab and metaverse-based clinical skills lab) As a result, the learning levels of the students in the metaverse-based clinical skills laboratory environment will be higher than in the skills laboratory. It will also increase the student's self-confidence in the field of pediatric nursing practice.
