Effects of Specialised Physical Education in Volleyball on Middle School Students' Physical Fitness and Performance

Physical education stands as a collaborative, bilateral activity essential for the development and improvement of young people's physical qualities and plays a pivotal role in youth sports promotion. Volleyball offers a blend of aerobic and anaerobic exercises, developing muscle strength, bone density, cardiovascular health, and fine-tuning the nervous system. It is effective in improving physical attributes such as strength, speed, agility, endurance, and coordination, which are crucial for holistic student development and success in the standardized PE entrance examinations for senior high school. Recent trends have highlighted a decline in physical fitness among youth, as evidenced by rising obesity rates and increasing failure rates in fitness assessments. To counteract this, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China 2021 has initiated a shift towards "specialised physical education," integrating health knowledge with basic and specialised motor skills training. This innovative educational model hopes to improve student physical fitness across educational tiers. Therefore, this study chose volleyball specialised physical education as an intervention to study the effect of physical fitness and The PE entrance examination for senior high school performance of middle school students.

Upper Extremity Asymmetries in Overhead Athletes

Although overhead sports have different characteristics, the movements in the shoulder and upper extremity are similar. These sports may involve a combination of symmetrical, asymmetrical, bilateral and unilateral movements. In sports involving asymmetric movements, biomechanical changes are observed in that area due to the use of the dominant extremity. One of the reliable methods to reveal the stress effects caused by biomechanical stresses is to determine limb asymmetries. Considering the literature, limb asymmetries may be related to injury and performance.

Physicians Performance After Night Shifts

Emergency medicine is one of the professional activities integrating a night activity into working time. Concerns about the sleep deprivation that this activity generates have been growing for the past thirty years. However, at present, the pace - duration and repetition - of this activity does not yet seem to be optimized, and therefore continues to be the subject of questions in terms of safety of care and quality of life at work. One of the peculiarities of emergency medicine is that doctors have to work in a crisis situation. A situation is qualified as critical for a patient when his state of health is unstable, and with an evolution which can be rapidly pejorative. Crisis situations are at the heart of the emergency room profession, and due to their potential seriousness for the patients, it must be managed in all circumstances. To cope with a crisis situation, a doctor needs to be efficient. However, performance calls for two types of skills: technical skills on one hand, and non-technical skills on the other. This study therefore aims to answer the following question: are the non-technical skills of emergency physicians in the management of a crisis situation affected twenty-four hours after the end of a night shift? The study assesses the performance of emergency physicians via complex simulations at two time frames : 24h after a night shift (the post recovery performance simulation) and another time were the participant did not have night shifts in less than 3 nights (usual performance simulation).

Malaria, schistosomiasis and ancylostomiasis are three parasitic diseases which affect hundreds of millions of people and are an important cause of global mortality and morbidity. For the control of these poverty related parasitic diseases, and to complement chemotherapeutic strategies, accurate and accessible diagnostic procedures play a crucial role. In recent years, innovative smart mobile technologies have been applied for detection and identification of cultured parasite species, which is basically based on sample imaging and parasite morphology identification. Promising advances have been made with this technology and coupled with its small size, low cost and easy to manipulate, makes it suitable for point of care diagnostics in low resource setting. The aim of the proposed explorative study is to further validate sensitivity and specificity of each of the developed devices, using besides microscopy a range of more advanced reference tests.

Exploring Self-regulatory Processes in Anesthesiologists During Massive Transfusion

The purpose of the project is to investigate the function of self-regulatory processes in anesthesiologists and how application of these processes influence performance in a crisis situation.The investigators intend to explore specifically the first phase of self-regulation, i.e. the forethought phase which describes processes related to strategic planning, goal setting, goal orientation, and outcome expectation. The investigators hypothesize that prompting forethought before engaging in a simulated massive transfusion crisis situation will result in better task performance in anesthesiologists.
