NCT ID: NCT03779308 Completed - Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials

Whole Body Vibration for Dystonia Cerebral Palsy

WBVT
Start date: January 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Health bones allow us to move and walk freely without pain. Physical activities have been shown to relate to healthy bone growth. Children with physical disabilities are not able to do the same amount of exercises as their healthy peers. They are vulnerable to poor bone health, bone pain, and at high risk of osteopenia or even broken bones. This problem will extend to their adulthood. Recently, whole body vibration therapy (WBVT) has been proven to improve bone health and muscle function in healthy adults and post-menopausal women. Promising results have been shown on gross motor skills, balance and muscle strength for children and young adults with mild cerebral palsy (CP). Most of the vibration protocols require the participants perform some simple exercises on the vibration platform. Very limited studies have been done on children and young adults with moderate CP and almost none solely on individuals with dystonia CP. We do not know if the effect of the WBVT on individuals with dystonia CP would be the same as those with spastic CP and on those with moderate CP as those with mild CP. We also do not know if static standing on the vibration platform would have similar effects on tone abnormalities, balance and gross motor skills as doing simple exercises on the vibration platform because children and young adults with dystonia CP may not be able to freely do simple exercises on the vibration platform without extra support. The present pilot study is to systematically investigate the effects of WBVT on tone abnormalities, balance and functional abilities in children and young adults with dystonia CP.

NCT ID: NCT03727217 Completed - Thyroidectomy Clinical Trials

Performance of Ultrasound in the Early Diagnosis of Vocal Cords Paralysis

PECV
Start date: July 10, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Thyroid and parathyroid surgery concerns around 50 000 patients a year in France. One of its main complications is paralysis of vocal cords, and the consequences can be serious. In this study, the main gold is to evaluate diagnostic performances of ultrasound for an early diagnosis (as soon as awakening of the patient) of vocal cords paralysis in the post-operative period in order to prevent at best complications.

NCT ID: NCT03691506 Completed - Clinical trials for Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy

Comparison of CIMT and Its Modified Form on Upper Motor Function Outcomes in Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy.

CIMT
Start date: October 15, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this research is to compare the effect of classic constraint-induced movement therapy and its modified form on upper extremity motor function outcomes and psychosocial impact in hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Randomized controlled trials with 2-3 weeks follow-up. The sample size is 40. The subjects are divided in two groups, 20 subjects in classical CIMT group and 20 in modified CIMT group. Study duration is of 6 months. Sampling technique applied will be purposive non probability sampling technique. Only 4-12 years individual with hemiplegic cerebral palsy are included. Tools used in the study are Box and Block test, Cerebral palsy (quality of life), Kid Screen 27 and QUEST (quality of upper extremity skill test). Data will be analyzed through SPSS 21.

NCT ID: NCT03677778 Completed - Anesthesia, Local Clinical Trials

Interscalene Brachial Plexus Block Washout to Reverse Inadvertent Phrenic Nerve Blockade

Start date: October 22, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

One of the most frequently performed peripheral nerve blocks (the injection of local anesthetic near nerves to block sensation/ movement to a specific part of the body) is the interscalene brachial plexus block for upper extremity surgeries. This type of block can unmask underlying respiratory issues such as shortness of breath due to a well-known and typically insignificant side effect of temporary diaphragmatic paralysis. The nerve block may be able to use saline solution to wash out the local anesthetic and potentially reverse this respiratory side effect. Specifically, the goal of this study is to determine if the injection of saline through the nerve block catheter reverses blockade of the phrenic nerve supplying the diaphragm, without affecting the ability of the nerve block to provide pain control after surgery.

NCT ID: NCT03662139 Completed - Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials

Dynamic Gait Index in Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy

Start date: April 1, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this study is to assess validity and reliability of Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) in patients with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy

NCT ID: NCT03651063 Completed - Clinical trials for Upper Extremity Paralysis

Socially Assistive Robot in Upper-Limb Neurorehabilitation

Start date: May 10, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

30 one year post stroke patients with upper limb paresis will be recruited to this study. The study is an RCT consists of two groups of intervention: 1. social robot, 2. computer, and one control group with no intervention. the intervention consists of 15 therapy sessions of reach-to-grasp games of the affected upper limb.

NCT ID: NCT03640611 Completed - Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials

Investigating the Relation Between Environmental Factors and Activity-participation in Children With Cerebral Palsy

Start date: September 15, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a chronic condition that causes the most childhood disabilities on worldwide. Impairment in movement and posture development seen in children with CP it causes difficulties in performing activities and affect in emotional, social, and cognitive abilities cause limited participation in everyday life. The ICF-CY child is divided into five categories: body structure and functions, activities, participation, environmental and personal factors, it is treated holistically. Initially, children with CP have adopted the view that environmental factors can also affect functionality, while focusing on the treatment of motor disorders to reduce activity and participation limitations in physiotherapy and rehabilitation applications. Environmental factors; the environment in which the child lives, his family, the devices he uses, health and care services, and government policies. These factors vary according to each country's own cultural and economic opportunities. The investigator planned to do this study because we found that there is a need for a comprehensive study of children with SP in Turkey, which does not reveal the relationship between environmental factors and activity and level of participation.

NCT ID: NCT03636542 Completed - Clinical trials for Phrenic Nerve Paralysis

Evaluation of Diaphragm Movement After an Interscalene Block

Start date: August 1, 2018
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the movement of the diaphragm after an interscalene block with liposome bupivacaine (LB) compared to interscalene block (IB) with bupivacaine. This study will evaluate if there is a possible prolonged phrenic nerve paralysis when using liposome bupivacaine in an interscalene block, using ultrasound.

NCT ID: NCT03620279 Completed - Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials

Magic Camp for Children With Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy

Start date: June 4, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The proposed study will test the feasibility and effectiveness of a "Magic Camp" in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP). A single group pretest-posttest design (n=10) will be used to investigate the immediate (2 weeks) and longer-term effect (3 months) of a "Magic Camp" on improving upper limb motor function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children with hemiplegic CP.
