Filter by:The purpose of this study is to evaluate giving chemotherapy drugs directly into the abdomen (belly) along with intravenous administration.
The purpose of this study is to obtain chemical information from part of your body without a biopsy. This is done using a technique called magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) which is similar to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) except that signals are detected from the chemicals (spectroscopy) naturally present in your body using radio waves. To receive this information from your body, small loops of wire (surface coils), placed near the tissue of interest, may be used to more effectively detect signals that come from the chemicals in your body. The investigators may use a second radio channel simultaneously, which will allow us to obtain greater chemical information (decoupling). The results may also help us to understand how this study can be used to help other patients with your condition.
The basic premise of this research proposal is to determine whether there is any significant association between germline polymorphisms and cancers of colon, bladder, breast, testicular, prostate, ovaries, kidney, lung, lymphoid organs, and head and neck. This is an exploratory study designed to generate hypotheses for further research.
The goal of this study is to help us learn more about the roles of genes in cancers that run in families. Sometimes, we are born with genes that are changed or altered. Gene changes are called mutations. Mutations may be passed down from parent to child. Some mutations cause a high risk for cancer. There are two major genes for breast and ovarian cancer. These genes are called BRCA --for breast cancer. If you have a mutation in these genes special actions may be needed. For a person with a known mutation, we will suggest ways to screen for cancer or prevent it. Not everything is known about cancer genes and mutations. The cancer screening we suggest may not always be effective. The aim of this study is to explore these questions. If you agree we will stay in touch with you to follow your medical history. We will also ask you about your family. This will allow us to measure the cancer risks of known mutations. The study will also look for other cancer genes we do not know about. Whether or not you take part in this study, you may have gene testing. If you take part in this study and wish to know, we will tell your BRCA gene test results. Beginning in 2019, a subset of participants will be given a follow-up questionnaire regarding their health and well-being. The investigators may perform genetic testing on the blood or saliva sample in one of two ways: analysis for mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes alone or as part of a panel of genes associated with breast cancer predisposition. New technologies are being employed for identification of patients with a susceptibility for developing breast cancer and thus analysis of multiple genes at one time may be offered to you. If this multi-gene testing applies to the patient, a question and answer sheet about this testing will be provided to them by their genetic counselor.
The purpose of this study is to learn more about women's decision to undergo prophylactic surgery. This is removal of healthy organs in order to reduce risk of cancer. This study will help us to understand what makes women decide whether or not to have this kind of surgery.
Cancer patients may develop side effects during treatment, such as nausea, pain, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, or shortness of breath. These symptoms may be due to the cancer itself, or due to treatments like chemotherapy drugs or radiation therapy. Doctors and nurses often ask patients about their symptoms, because an important part of cancer treatment is to make patients feel as well as possible. If patients do not feel well, the investigators may need to change the way the investigators are treating you or prescribe therapies that will decrease your symptoms. The best way to find out how you are feeling is to ask you directly. However, during your time between appointments the investigators may not be able to ask you how you are feeling on a regular basis. In addition, even at an appointment, there may be symptoms that the investigators do not have a chance to discuss. The investigators are interested in developing new ways to ask patients about how they are feeling, using the Internet. A special new website called STAR ("Symptom Tracking and Reporting for Patients") has been developed to help patients record this information, so that their doctors and nurses can review it during clinic appointments. This study is designed to help us see if STAR is a helpful way for us to keep track of information about patients' symptoms and quality of life.
RATIONALE: AMG 706 may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well AMG 706 works in treating patients with persistent or recurrent ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer.
This study will further evaluate the use of protein identification or protein pattern (signature) found in tears. We hypothesize that differences exist between the protein profile in tear fluid from patients with versus without cancer.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel and trabectedin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Colony-stimulating factors, such as G-CSF and pegfilgrastim, may help the immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. Giving combination chemotherapy together with G-CSF or pegfilgrastim may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying the side effects and how well giving docetaxel and trabectedin together with G-CSF or pegfilgrastim works in treating patients with recurrent or persistent ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cavity cancer.
