Filter by:This study will enroll a total of 16 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. All subjects will receive combination therapy of gemcitabine, nab-paclitaxel, and L-glutamine. The study investigates what the appropriate dosage of L-glutamine is so that there is the lowest risk of side effects, and whether the supplement will make standard chemotherapy of gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel more effective in treating advanced pancreatic cancer.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether a live, oral, combined Shigella-ETEC vaccine candidate, known as strain CVD 1208S-122, is safe and immunogenic.
The aim of the project is to show that gene expression levels change in at least one of the GATA6 and T-box transcription factor 3 (TBX3) genes in indirect inguinal hernia sacs, thus revealing that this pathway causes an error in the sac closure pathway. Indirect inguinal hernia is an important condition for human health as it is common in the community and can lead to life-threatening or permanent loss of function. In addition, since the treatment is performed surgically, the follow-up and treatment process of the patients should be managed carefully in terms of complications and costs. By explaining the mechanisms of the occurrence of this disease, important steps will be taken in terms of both human health and the development of science. Moreover, the data to be collected may open new horizons in the treatment of inguinal hernia. 20 inguinal hernia patients those consecutively applied to Trakya University Medical Faculty Department of Pediatric Surgery and 20 circumcision patients as control group will be included in the study.
Neoadjuvant plus adjuvant treatment with immunotherapy may have an anti-tumor activity and reduce the risk of relapse in patients with high risk surgically resectable stage III cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.
Sleep disruption in the intensive care unit (ICU) is a common comorbidity associated with patient morbidity and distress. There are no recommended pharmacologic interventions for sleep promotion, and many pharmacologic solutions may actually increase the risk of adverse outcomes rather than impart benefits. Gabapentin, an anticonvulsant with applications in neuropathic pain, has been investigated for sleep promotion in various populations of outpatients. Here investigators propose a pilot study of gabapentin as a therapy for sleep disruption in the ICU. Outcomes measured will be sleep quality as measured by RCSQ (Richards-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire), wrist actigraphy, EEG, and BIS monitoring. The goal is to enroll 80 critically ill patients, 40 intubated and 40 non-intubated patients. The study will take place over 2 nights, with baseline sleep measurements occurring on the first night and gabapentin administration with repeat sleep measurements on the second night.
This study will evaluate the effects of the ketogenic diet in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer while receiving chemotherapy.
This is a modular, multicentre, open-label, non-randomised, Phase I/II, dose-setting and expansion study including an intra-participants dose ramp up. AZD4573 will be administered intravenously, in novel combinations with anti-cancer agents, to participants with relapsed/refractory (r/r) haematological malignancies.
Treatment with polysorbate 80-solved Docetaxel (Taxotere®) is hampered by the requirement to co-administer steroids. Chronic (intermittent) steroids are negatively impacting bone health and have well known immunosuppressive effects. Despite steroid premedication, polysorbate 80-solved Docetaxel (Taxotere®) results in occasional infusion reactions due to the solvent polysorbate 80. Docetaxel micellar is a promising alternative to polysorbate 80-solved Docetaxel (Taxotere) as it avoids the mandatory need for steroid administration pre and post infusion, and thus avoids immunosuppressive and bone-damaging effects. There is an unmet medical need to develop steroid-free taxane regimens for patients with advanced cancer to avoid the need for steroid administration pre and post infusion (as outlined above). The unique Docetaxel micellar formulation suggests an improved safety profile compared to polysorbate 80-solved Docetaxel (Taxotere®).
Patients with STEMI (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) with multivessel disease which have PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention)-suitable non-IRA (infarct related artery) will be randomized to immediate complete revascularization group or staged revascularization group by 1:1 fashion. Non-IRA lesion which have equal or more than 70% diameter stenosis by visual estimation will be revascularized without FFR (fractional flow reserve) evaluation. Non-IRA lesion with diameter stenosis 50-70% by visual estimation will be evaluated using FFR device. In case of FFR value more than 0.8, non-IRA lesion wll be deferred without PCI. If FFR value was equal or less than 0.8, non-IRA lesion will be revascularized.
The current study will use a full factorial design to identify the independent and combined effects of four core MABT components when combined with standard behavioral treatment for BN and BED. The primary aim of the study will be to evaluate the independent efficacy of Mindful Awareness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Modulation, and Values-Based Decision Making on eating pathology (at posttreatment and at 6 and 12-month follow-ups). Secondary aims will be (1) to test target engagement of each MABT component, i.e., to confirm that each treatment component impacts both the variable which it targets and self-regulation and that improvements in these are associated with improvements in outcomes and (2) to test the hypotheses that the efficacy of each component is moderated by related baseline deficits in self-regulation (e.g. individuals with worse distress tolerance at baseline are most likely to benefit from conditions that include the Distress Tolerance component). A final exploratory aim will be to quantify the component interaction effects, which may be partially additive (because components overlap and/or there is diminishing return), fully additive, or synergistic (in that components may partially depend on each other).
