Brain Plasticity Underlying Acquisition of New Organizational Skills in Children-R61 Phase

Organizational, time management and planning (OTMP) skills deficits are seriously impairing features of developmental disorders, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and autism, which compromise school performance and family relations. The manualized Organizational Skills Training program (OST) was designed to target children's specific OTMP deficits. However, the brain mechanisms of treatment-induced changes remain unknown. The current study combines a training intervention with non-invasive MRI imaging in a pre-/post-design to address this question.

OncAlert™ was developed by Vigilant Biosciences, a collaborator in this research study. OncAlert™ is an oral rinse which is spit into a cup and sent to a laboratory for analysis. OncAlert™ is considered experimental by the FDA because it is not approved for the screening of cancer.

Virtual Reality Therapy for Treatment-resistant Auditory Hallucinations in Schizophrenia

Treatment of verbal hallucinations in schizophrenia is clinically challenging for both the patient and the therapist. For the therapist, one of the main difficulties arises from the impossibility of directly communicating with the entity persecuting the patient. For the patient, the therapeutic process is challenging because it aims at getting to better cope with an entity that keeps repeating stereotyped and abusive sentences without having the emotional strength to reply to the persecutor. To help overcome these clinical challenges, virtual reality enable patients to recreate the face and the voice of their persecutor.The hypothesis is that the engagement of patients in a dialogue with an external representation of their persecutor, with the support of the therapist, would help them to gain better control over their voices.

Trametinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.

Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) is defined by the occurence of visual hallucinations (VH) in the absence of any mental disorder. Elderly patients with reduced visual acuity due to ophthalmic diseases are most affected. Conditions are often associated with the syndrome of age-related macular degeneration, cataract or glaucoma. Existing data on the syndrome's prevalence in Europe reveal diverse results. Aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of CBS in patients with low visual acuity and to evaluate, if an additional therapeutic interview with and treatment by a psychiatrist is beneficial.

The Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is one of the leading causes of blindness on the pediatric age worldwide. This pathology is characterized for arrest of the normal vascular and neuronal retina that because of pathological compensatory mechanisms results in proliferation of vascular tissue that grow in the limit between the vascular retina and the avascular retina. The ET-ROP group classified the ROP by those who need treatment immediately or those who doesn't need treatment, The classification is the following Type 1 ROP-->ROP zone I any stage with plus, zone I stage 3 without plus, zone II stage 2 y 3 with plus Type 2 ROP --> Zone 1, Stage 2 or 3 without plus, and Zone II, stage 3 without plus. The treatment is begun on patient with type 1 ROP and type 2 ROP is maintained in observation.

Incidence and Risk Factors for Surgical Site Infection After Intramedullary Nailing of Femoral and Tibial Fractures

Diaphyseal femoral and tibial fractures are in the spotlight within the traumatology-orthopedics scenario. Intramedullary nailing (IMN) remains the method of choice for treating these fractures, both open and closed ones. Occurrences of surgical site infection (SSI) related to this type of osteosynthesis are a challenge for all the professionals involved in patient healthcare. The reported incidence of SSI after IMN ranges from 0.9 to 17.5%. The majority of the data comes from retrospective studies and as part of case series descriptions, with little detail about the criteria used for defining and searching for cases of infection. Regarding the potential risk factors for this complication, previous use of external fixators, occurrence of open fractures and the severity of exposure according to the Gustilo-Anderson classification were indicated in a few retrospective studies as being possibly related to this complication. The objectives of the present observational cohort study are: 1. To determine the incidence of SSI related to IMN for fixation of diaphyseal femoral and tibial fractures in patients treated in a university traumatology and orthopedics reference hospital in São Paulo, Brazil; 2. To evaluate the risk factors related to the occurrence of this type of infection.

The investigators will analyze biomarkers related to the prognosis and treatment of necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTI). The focus will be on whether certain endothelial and immune system biomarkers can function as markers of disease severity, mortality as well as the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Biomarkers will be measured upon admission to an intensive care unit at Copenhagen University Hospital and during the following 3 days.
