A Cytomegalovirus-Directed Vaccine (CMV-alphaDC1) for Preventing Cytomegalovirus Infection or Reactivation in Patients Undergoing Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

This phase Ib trial evaluates the safety and most effective dose of a cytomegalovirus (CMV) pp65 peptide-loaded alpha-type-1 polarized dendritic cell (CMV-alphaDC1) vaccination in patients who are undergoing an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant. CMV is an opportunistic infection that can occur or reactivate after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant as a result of immunosuppression. The CMV-alphaDC1 vaccine is made of white blood cells that have been exposed to molecules called cytokines, as well as CMV proteins. Introducing these dendritic cells to the patients immune system may activate an immune response to CMV, protecting against infection or reactivation.

REFIT-MSS is a non-randomized, multicenter, open-label, multi-cohort, 2-stage, phase II trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of regorafenib in combination with tislelizumab (referred as Rego-Tisle) in adult patients with select advance, previously treated, Mismatch Repair-Proficient/Microsatellite (pMMR/MSS) stable solid cancers. The multi-cohort design will allow for the examination of 8 separate cohorts of different cancers to determine whether further examination may be warranted in the individual indications.

Testing Anti-Cancer Drugs Erdafitinib With or Without Atezolizumab in Patients With Localized Bladder Cancer Not Able to Receive Cisplatin Chemotherapy, NERA Trial

This phase II trial compares the effect of erdafitinib alone to using the combination of erdafitinib and atezolizumab in treating patients with bladder cancer whose tumor invades the muscular bladder wall (muscle invasive)and who are ineligible for treatment with a chemotherapy drug called cisplatin. This trial also determines whether these treatment approaches are better than the usual approach for treating this type of cancer. The usual approach for treatment of someone with muscle invasive bladder cancer is chemotherapy with a drug called cisplatin followed by surgery (most common), or chemoradiation (radiation combined with chemotherapy) to the bladder (in some patients). However, half of the patients cannot get cisplatin due to safety concerns. This study has a screening step. The purpose of this step is to test patient's tumor to find out if it has a specific change (alteration) in the fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) gene to determine patient's eligibility for this trial. Alteration of the FGFR gene causes bladder cancer cells to grow and divide abnormally. Erdafitinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of an abnormal FGFR protein. This may help keep cancer cells from growing and may kill them. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as atezolizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Giving erdafitinib alone or in combination with atezolizumab may help to shrink tumor cells at the time of surgery better than the usual treatment in muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Reducing Unnecessary Antibiotic Prescriptions in Primary Healthcare in Saskatchewan by Identifying High Prescribers

Approximately 90% of antibiotics are prescribed in primary healthcare (PHC) in Canada (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2020), making this an important sector for antimicrobial stewardship. Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) represent a common indication in PHC for which antibiotics are often prescribed unnecessarily (Leis et al, 2020; Schwartz et al., 2020). Reducing unnecessary antibiotic treatment in this sector is a vital part of contributing to minimizing the global burden of antibiotic resistance. The goal of this research project is to reduce the number of antibiotic prescriptions among family physicians identified as high prescribers in Saskatchewan. To achieve this, the investigators will send letters to the top 25th percentile of high prescribers in PHC. The letters will contain data indicating the prescribers high antimicrobial usage as well as guidance for reducing unnecessary prescriptions and promoting appropriate lengths of prescriptions for upper respiratory tract infections.

Portable Scalp Cooling System for the Improvement of Chemotherapy-Induced Hair Loss in Patients With Metastatic Breast Cancer

This clinical trial evaluates the benefits of a portable scalp cooling system (PSCS) for improving chemotherapy-induced hair loss in patients with breast cancer that has spread to other places in the body (metastatic) and are undergoing taxane-based chemotherapy. The PSCS is a new system designed to reduce chemotherapy induced hair loss. The PSCS is designed as a portable unit, allowing patients to leave the infusion center after chemotherapy is completed and finish scalp cooling at home. PSCS may help improve chemotherapy-induced hair loss in patients with metastatic breast cancer receiving chemotherapy.
