Filter by:Monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) is a common pediatric developmental disorder. MNE refers to urinary incontinence in the sleep state in children aged ≥5 years, without other LUT symptoms, and without bladder dysfunction. Its pathogenesis mainly include overnight polyuria, overactive bladder, sleep-arousal dysfunction, genetics, and abnormal secretion of anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). Desmopressin is a synthetic analog of ADH arginine-vasopressin (AVP), which is used to treat central diabetes insipidus and primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE). Desmopressin decreases urine production at night when taken at bedtime. Insufficient ADH secretion at night will contribute to nocturnal polyuria, which is an important cause of NE. Therefore, desmopressin, a synthetic analog of ADH, is frequently used for NE and is an evidence-based therapy (grade ⅠA evidence). Some children, however, have desmopressin resistance and do not achieve the desired treatment goals. What's more, there's a high relapse rate of desmopressin after withdrawing. Suoquan mixture is a Chinese medicine commonly used to treat NE in children. It is composed of Cuscuta, Codonopsis, Psoralea corylifolia Linn ,Astragalus, mantis egg-case and ephedra. It has not only a certain cure rate but also has a lower relapse rate . However there's few evidence could prove that. In this study, the investigators compared the 3 month treatment response and relapse rate (RR) in the following 6 months of desmopressin and desmopressin plus suoquan, and observe if there will be a lower relapse rare in desmopressin plus Suoquan. Moreover, the investigators will try to explore the mechanism of Suoquan mixture in MNE.
a novel approach for TQL (anterior Q.L) block aiming mainly for terminal branches of lumbar plexus. The technique is described as Para-Spinous Saggital Shift Q.L block, done at L4 transverse process level in saggital orientation.
This study evaluates how well panitumumab-IRDye800 and 89Zr-panitumumab work in identifying cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes in patients with squamous cell head and neck cancer. Panitumumab-IRDye800 is a drug that contains a dye molecule that fluoresces during surgery to indicate cancerous tissue. 89Zr-panitumumab is a drug that contains a small amount of radiation, which makes it visible in positron emission tomography (PET) scans. PET scans make detailed, computerized pictures of areas inside the body where the drug is used. Giving panitumumab-IRDye800 and 89Zr-panitumumab to patients with head and neck cancer may help doctors find metastatic lymph nodes better than current methods [positron emission tomography (PET); computed tomography (CT); magnetic imaging resonance (MRI), or combinations].
investigators assume that administration of preoperative melatonin will reduce the required dose of propofol in participants undergoing loco-regional chronic subdural hematoma evacuation, it may as well provide better postoperative analgesia and decrease the incidence of delirium.
Background: The psychological and behavioral symptoms (SPCD) of dementias are the manifestations that cause the most suffering in the patient and caregiver, worsening the other two symptomatic areas (cognitive and functional) and precipitating the early institutionalization of patients with dementia. non-pharmacological therapies (TNF) in dementia are framed in the biopsychosocial model of patient care. We found evidence in the literature about the effectiveness of ambulatory educational interventions to the family caregiver in terms of reducing overload and improving their state of mind But it is not well demonstrated whether this improvement can have an indirect impact on the SPCD of the patient, nor whether the profile of patients could have an added benefit to the best pharmacological treatment. Methods: The experimental study selected thirty-six older adults family caregivers of patients with dementia. The intervention group (n=18) received isolated medical treatment, while the control group (n=18) received medical treatment plus educational support therapy to their family caregivers. Data collection included sociodemographic measures and responses to the educational support therapy tot the Zarit Caregiver Overload Scale (family caregivers) and Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI-10) patients with dementia.
Background: Patients with major depressive disorder have prominently been reported to be related with subnormal polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids levels, importantly low docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid in plasma and dietary intake. However, more randomized controlled trials are needed to support its importance in management of depression. Objective: To explore polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid role in major depressive disorder management. Materials & Methods: Seventy patients 20 to 40 yeas, who were already diagnosed with depression and taking antidepressant treatment, were selected at department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences Kind Edward Medical University Lahore, and assigned into 2 groups, i.e. Intervention and control, by simple random lottery method. For twelve weeks, intervention group advised to take one omega-3 (300mg EPA, eicosapentaenoic acid and 200mg DHA docosahexaenoic acid), or placebo (500 mg corn oil) capsules once daily with meal. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scale was used to assess the depression. Demographic information was collected by using a structured questionnaire.
This study aims to establish abbreviated PB MRI protocol for patients on regular imaging follow-up for pancreas cystic neoplasm.
Background: Food practices are socially, culturally and historically embedded in everyday life. It is a common notion that people eat due to internal state of physiologic hunger but in fact the drive behind eating behaviors is much more complex. We eat, inter alia, because of our response to external cues such as the sight and smell of food, or external eating. Another related concept is food cravings: intense irresistible desires to consume a particular food that is distinct from hunger. Both external eating and food cravings have been associated with impulsivity, eating disorders and obesity. During recent decades the role of the media, and recently of the social media in our lives has grown significantly, and their influence on culture and society is now huge. A common activities on social media sites (SNS) is food viewing and posting pictures of tempting food, known as food porn. Food porn has been found to correlate with eating patterns and food-related attention and reward bias. The aim of this study is to conduct a controlled manipulation that may help us deduce causality as well as association. The investigators postulate that (1) viewing pictures of appetizing food will lead to higher rates of reported external eating and food craving than viewing pictures that are not food related; (2) Viewing these appetizing food pictures will lead participants to order different kinds of food and greater amounts; (3) The effect of viewing food pictures on external eating, food cravings and food orders will be greater for participants with high disturbed eating, then for participants without disturbed eating. Method: After providing informed consent, 150 female participants (aged 18-35) will self report on demographic variables, SNS food preoccupation and disturbed eating (EAT-26). They will then be randomly assigned to watch either a food porn or control video. They will complete measures of food cravings (FCQ-S) and external eating (DEBQ) after watching the video and asked to order food they would like to eat from a virtual menu.)
