Filter by:The goals of the study are to develop a culturally and linguistically appropriate intervention to reduce SHS exposure for LEP Korean women using a family-focused intervention approach targeting Korean Americans ages 18 and above in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, CA, and to evaluate efficacy of the proposed intervention. The study is a single group feasibility trial targeting a total of 4 lay health workers (LHW) and 24 dyads of LEP Korean women with self-reported SHS exposure at home and a male household smoker. The hypothesis is: H. Can a family-based intervention approach reduce SHS exposure among Korean American women who live with a current smoker?
Microbiome in lower respiratory diseases is not sufficiently known yet. The objective of this study is to investigate microbiome in patients who present with hemoptysis, and those with pulmonary tuberculosis, non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD), and lung cancer, analyzing respiratory specimen acquired by bronchoscopic approach.
Because of the inter and intra individual variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of eculizumab in PNH patients, a tailored treatment approach for the individual is probably preferable. The starting point of a robust tailored dosing approach for eculizumab is the development of a population pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic model. In this cross-sectional observational pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic study, trough and peak concentrations of eculizumab are measured to describe the pharmacokinetics and complement activation markers to describe the pharmacodynamics.

With the birth of Mechanical Ventilation in the 1950s came the ventilation induced lung injuries (VILI). Numerous works have since then shown the benefit of "protective ventilation", notably by controlling the delivered tidal volume and pressures. However, as the respiratory condition improves and the weaning is started by shifting to Pressure Support Ventilation (PSV), these parameters stop being tightly controlled. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the driving pressure measured in PSV and the weaning time.
This study includes 105 patients who underwent repair for ≥ moderate tricuspid regurgitation (TR) during mitral valve replacement for rheumatic valve disease. Between January 2016 and December 2018, a group of 23 patients underwent ring annuloplasty with Edward MC3 rings were compared to another group of 82 patients underwent standard suture (DeVega) repair. The primary outcome was residual TR (≥ moderate TR).
To access the effectiveness of Acetogenins in treating Post-Lyme Disease Syndrome (PLDS).
The investigators plan to conduct a crossover experimental trial examining physiological responses to a socio-evaluative speech task under laboratory conditions. Participants will attend two laboratory sessions. At one session participants will take part in a brief laboratory stress task and at the other participants will rest for the same period. Measures of cardiovascular response will be assessed at both sessions. In addition, blood will be drawn at multiple time points across a 125 minute period to assess changes in circulating levels of cortisol, catecholamines, markers of inflammation and cell free mitochondrial DNA in response to the task. The investigators expect that the stress task will induce a specific increase in ccf-mtDNA, which will statistically mediate subsequent peak circulating Interleukin-6 and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α levels. In secondary analyses, the investigators will examine whether stress-induced increases in circulating cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine levels correlate with increases in ccf-mtDNA. These studies will establish the kinetics and magnitude of psychological stress-induced ccf-mtDNA release, the association with early stress mediators, and whether ccf-mtDNA mediates the inflammatory response to acute stress in humans.
To investigate the blood oxygenation response to aerobic and breathing exercises in pregnant women. Participants and methods: A total of forty pregnant women participated in the study who were at the beginning of 3rd trimester. Their ages ranged from 25 to 30 years and their body mass index (BMI) was less than 30 kg/m2. They were assigned into two groups (A) performed aerobic exercises in a form of walking for 20-30 min. on treadmill at 60-75% of the target heart rate (THR) of each women, 3 times per week in addition to deep breathing exercises in form of diaphragmatic and lateral costal breathing, group (B) who performed deep breathing exercises only in form of diaphragmatic and lateral costal breathing. The program continued for 3 months, 3 times per week. The oxygen saturation (SaO2) was measured twice time firstly, at the beginning of 3rd trimester of pregnancy then after 3 months that at 24, 36 gestation weeks.
The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between VEGF gene expression, VEGF gene polymorphism and serum leptin concentration in the Polish population in people with excessive body weight. In addition, the aim of the study is to look for relationships between the VEGF gene polymorphism and anthropometric and biochemical factors of cardiovascular risk and endothelial dysfunction such as body weight, waist circumference, serum total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, glucose and the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in the family of a patient with excessive body weight in the Polish population.
