Filter by:The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of clinical pilates exercises and electrotherapy on pain level, physical condition, functional status and psychosocial status in patients with chronic neck pain.In the study, individuals will be divided into two groups. Pilates will be applied to one group for 6 weeks, pilates and conventional therapy will be applied to one group. Individuals will be evaluated before and after treatment. In the evaluation, pain, disability, anxiety and depression status, quality of life of individuals will be questioned. In addition, cervical joint range of motion and endurance will be evaluated.
The study consists of a theoretical and practical intervention based on the Back School. This intervention will be carried out over 8 weeks with a frequency of two sessions per week, for a total of 16 sessions of 45 minutes duration. Of all the sessions, 14 had a practical focus (strength and stretching exercises) and the other two had a theoretical focus (self-management techniques and pain neuroscience education). In addition, they had an initial session and a session at the end of the of the intervention in which measurements of the different variables were taken (The Visual Analogue Scale; Neck Disability Index; Tampa Scale Of kinesiophobia).These variables will be measured on two occasions, at the beginning of the study and at the end of the intervention, an average of 2 months. The clinical practice guidelines highlight the importance of neck pain prevention through exercise an education. There are previous studies of the effects of theoretical and practical programmes based on back school on the lumbar region but not on the cervical region. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of a BS-based intervention on neck pain and functionality as well as kinesiophobia and quality of life in adults. The hypothesis previously hypothesised that this BS-based intervention would have positive effects on pain, functionality, kinesiophobia and quality of life.
Background: Immersive virtual reality (VR) has been used for several years in the treatment of chronic neck pain. This new type of rehabilitation device, which can be used at home, is promising and seems to be as effective as conventional treatments for neck pain. Exploring the experience of people with chronic neck pain using this type of rehabilitation device at home could, among other things, help to understand the factors favoring good adherence and those not favoring it. This could also help us to improve VR home rehabilitation programs according to the patients' needs, preferences and expectations. However, currently, no studies have qualitatively evaluated the experience of people with chronic non-specific neck pain using an immersive VR serious game at home. Objective: To explore the experience of people with chronic non-specific neck pain who used an immersive VR serious game at home. Methods: Individual semi-structured interviews will be conducted with people with chronic non-specific neck pain. Interviews will last for approximately 30 to 60 minutes and will be carried out face-to-face or via videoconference (Microsoft Teams), depending on up-to-date guidance relating to the Covid-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews will be audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The transcripts will be read several times and analyzed using thematic analysis, with themes emerging from the transcripts (inductive approach). These themes will be defined and revised throughout the analysis process. Discussion: Study findings will help to better understand the experience of people with chronic non-specific neck pain using a VR serious game at home, and then will allow to adapt it to the subjects' needs, preferences and expectations. These adaptations could further increase adherence to treatment and/or improve clinical outcomes for people with chronic non-specific neck pain using this type of rehabilitation device at home.
The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between the degree of neck straightening and pain, phone addiction and nomophobia in young adult patients who applied to the clinic with the complaint of neck pain and were diagnosed with neck straightening as a result of radiological examinations. 120 patients who applied to the clinic with the complaint of neck pain and were diagnosed with cervical hypolordosis by radiological examination will be included in the study. After giving the necessary verbal and written information about the study, a link will be sent to the phones of the patients whose informed consent was obtained. Patients will access evaluation questions and survey questions via this link. Personal information with the Sociodemographic Data Form prepared by us; pain severity by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS); phone addiction level with the Smartphone Addiction Questionnaire (Young Population); nomophobia levels will be evaluated with the Nomophobia Scale.
The Purpose of this study is to culturally adapt and translate Core outcome measure index-Neck Scale into Urdu language as well as to investigate the reliability and validity in Pakistani population. Also check its correlation with Neck Disability-Index, Neck-pain and the disability-scale and Functional-Rating-Index.
The factors affecting pain-related self-efficacy in individuals with chronic neck pain were investigated. A total of 69 subjects participated in the study. After the demographic data of the subjects were taken, pain-self-efficacy questionnaire, Timed Up and Go Test, Berg Balance Scale and International Physical Activity Questionnaire were administered, respectively.
Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders are some of the most burdensome health issues in the world and the leading causes of years living with a disability. Between them, jaw pain and neck have been very prevalent among the general population. Subjects with chronic neck and jaw pain present with persistent pain, allodynia, and hyperalgesia, sometimes extending to regions distant from the neck, head, or face, as well as cognitive and motor dysfunction. In addition, both conditions are commonly related to pain in other anatomical regions, and they also might also exhibit a greater risk for pain-associated somatic symptom burden. The treatment for patients with neck and jaw could involve different techniques in the rehabilitation area. Between them, therapeutic exercise is a cornerstone of MSK disease rehabilitation. Although mechanisms of action for exercise in subjects with pain are not yet understood, therapeutic exercise is widely applied in a variety of painful MSK conditions, such as low back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, osteoarthritis, and disorders of the cervical and craniofacial regions such as temporomandibular disorders, headaches, and neck pain. Besides its effects on function and health, therapeutic exercise is known to have some pain-relieving effects and specific motor control exercises targeted to the neck can enhance the neural control of the cervical spine in patients with neck involvement such as patients with jaw and neck pain. Previous studies have demonstrated that treatment directed to the neck may be beneficial in decreasing pain intensity in the masticatory muscles, increasing pain-free mouth opening, and decreasing pain in the head and neck regions in people with jaw pain. In addition, neck motor control exercises have been successful to manage chronic neck pain and cervicogenic headache. Subjects with neck pain and associated disorders receiving neck motor control exercises had a reduction of pain and improved quality of life. Another option that has been explored to relieve MSK pain is aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise has been used to stimulate the release of pain-relieving peptides in healthy human beings; however, little is known about the analgesic effect of exercise in people suffering from actual musculoskeletal pain. Previous literature found positive results in favor of aerobic exercise for pain relief. However, none of them included patients with jaw and neck-related disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) is to test the effectiveness of local craniocervical motor control exercises when compared with aerobic exercise on pain-disability related outcomes such as pain intensity, pain pressure thresholds (PPTs), jaw and neck disabilities and to restore normal muscular performance and fatigability of the cervical muscles in people with jaw and neck pain. Also, an important objective for performing this pilot study is to test the feasibility of these protocols and gather data that will be the basis for applying to external funding. This study will be a randomized controlled trial, blinded, two-armed parallel group. It will include women between 18-60 years of age; diagnosed with temporomandibular disorders (i.e., jaw pain) classified by the new Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD); or diagnosed with idiopathic chronic neck pain associated or not with TMD. Because this is an exploratory (pilot) study it will include at least 21 subjects per treatment group. The primary outcome will be pain intensity evaluated by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the secondary outcomes will be Neck Disability Index; Jaw Function; Pressure Pain Threshold; Psychological functioning; Global Rating Scale; and Muscular performance and fatigability of the cervical muscles. The patients will be randomized into two groups: local craniocervical motor control exercises and aerobic exercise. The local craniocervical motor control exercises program will be focused on training the deep and superficial flexors and extensors neck muscles. The treatment will consist of a 12-week progressive training program with a total duration of 30-45 min per session. Individuals assigned to the aerobic exercise will receive cycling exercise, with a total duration of 60 minutes. Both groups will be evaluated before the treatment starts (baseline); after two and six weeks from the beginning of treatment (1st and 2nd partial evaluation); at the end of the treatment (final evaluation - 12 weeks); and after three and six months of the end of the treatment (1st and 2nd follow-up).
Chronic neck pain (CNP) is reported to be one of the most common musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Studies showed that patients with chronic neck pain compensated with changes in Pain, Function, Musculoskeletal and Respiratory outcomes. The diaphragm is a primary respiratory muscle contributing to postural stability and spinal control. Many studies showed that manual therapy and exercise improve clinical and respiratory outcomes in CNP patients. Few studies highlight the importance of diaphragm manual therapy and Reeducation Breathing Exercises in musculoskeletal diseases and in CNP patients. However, the exact mechanism is still unclear. This study aims to examine the hypothesis that: "Diaphragm Manual Therapy and Breathing Reeducation Exercises combined with cervical manual therapy - improve clinical and respiratory outcomes more than cervical manual therapy intervention only or conventional physiotherapy
A single-blinded, parallel-group randomized controlled trial was conducted at the national institute of rehabilitation medicine, Pakistan, from April to July 2016, on 30 females who were recruited through non-probability convenient sampling technique and randomly allocated to the experimental and control group.
Nonspecific chronic neck pain is the third most frequent problem in Spain. It has an annual presence between 15% and 50% where women are the most affected. This pain influences the psychosocial state of the person. Physical exercise has been shown to be effective in a wide variety of chronic pain conditions, including improving quality of life and emotional problems. Design: Single-blind, controlled, randomized clinical trial. Methods: The study will be approached in the Faculty of Nursing and Physiotherapy of the University of Alcalá. 52 subjects with nonspecific chronic neck pain will be selected and randomly divided into two groups. The first group should perform 5 exercises that have been shown to be effective in the management of neck pain selected by the physiotherapist focused on neck pain. The second group must choose, from a list of exercises that have been shown to be effective in the management of neck pain, 5 exercises. Both groups should record the pain, the number of repetitions and the series performed. The duration of the intervention will be a total of 8 weeks with evaluations pre-intervention, post-intervention and 4 weeks after the end of the intervention. The objective of this study is to evaluate if the exercise chosen by the patient is better than the exercises selected by the physiotherapist for the variables chronic neck pain, strength of the affected muscles, kinesiophobia and adherence to treatment.
