Filter by:Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) is committed to improvement and excellence in clinical research and correlative science. To this end, the SCRI Oncology Research Consortium will collect written consent from patients allowing the use of their tumor tissue sample(s) for testing/analysis at a future date. Future testing may include assays for newly identified markers of potential prognostic and/or therapeutic value. These markers may be specific to an individual cancer type, or they may be present more generally in cancer and/or other conditions.
RATIONALE: Giving low doses of chemotherapy and total-body irradiation before a donor umbilical cord blood transplant helps stop the growth of cancer cells. It may also stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells. The donated stem cells may replace the patient's immune cells and help destroy any remaining cancer cells (graft-versus-tumor effect). PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the safety of donor umbilical cord blood transplant after fludarabine phosphate, cyclophosphamide, and total-body irradiation in treating patients with high-risk hematologic cancer (now closed). The Phase II part of this trial is studying whether priming one of two UCB units with C3a facilitates engraftment of the treated unit.
This is an open-label, single arm phase 1 study to evaluate the dose-limiting toxicity, maximum tolerated dose, and recommended phase II dose of Clioquinol in patients with relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies. The study will also characterize Cliquinol's safety, tolerability and pharmacodynamic effect.
RATIONALE: The influenza vaccine may help prevent flu in patients who have undergone stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well the influenza vaccine works in preventing flu in patients who have undergone stem cell transplant and in healthy volunteers.
RATIONALE: Cyproheptadine hydrochloride may help improve appetite and lessen weight loss caused by cancer or cancer treatment. It is not yet known whether cyproheptadine hydrochloride is more effective with or without nutritional supplementation in improving weight and quality of life of young patients with weight loss caused by cancer or cancer treatment. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying cyproheptadine hydrochloride to see how well it works when given together with or without nutritional supplementation in treating young patients with weight loss caused by cancer or cancer treatment.
RATIONALE: Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus, may be effective in preventing infections in patients with suppressed immune systems. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and how well giving enteral nutrition, including Lactobacillus, works in preventing infections in patients undergoing donor stem cell transplant for hematologic cancer or myelodysplastic syndrome.
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if LBH589 can help to control lower-risk (low or intermediate-1 risk) MDS. The safety of this drug will also be studied.
The hypothesis of this study is that 5-aza and lenalidomide act synergistically in MDS and AML patients with chromosomal abnormalities involving monosomy 5 or del5q. Therefore, this phase I study will investigate the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of lenalidomide in combination with a fixed dose of 5-aza in this patient population.
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and feasibility of unrelated double and single cord blood transplantation in patients with haematological malignancies using reduced-intensity or myeloablative conditioning regimens.
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and feasibility of conditioning with fludarabine, busulphan and thymoglobuline in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative disorders (MDS/MPD) or acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) undergoing haematopoietic stem cell allograft with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-mobilised peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) (or bone marrow) from HLA compatible sibling donors.
