Filter by:The aim of this retrospective study is to review and describe safety, tolerability and efficacy of Rebif® (subcutaneous interferon [IFN]-beta-1a) in children and adolescents, using information already recorded in medical records. The study duration is 13 July 2010 (first data collected) to 13 July 2011 (last data collected). In this study, Data of the subjects evaluated between 1997 and 2009 was observed.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a complex multi-factorial disease, with underlying both genetic and environmental factors. Different populations have different susceptibility. The disease is characterized by 2 main phenotypes: relapsing-remitting or progressive course. Clinical disability is due to distraction of the CNS myelin. Repair processes are mainly noted after the acute attack - and recovery of function can be spontaneous. However, in severe attacks sometimes there is need for adding STEROID TREATMENT (6 days IV) for the acute attack. For the long term prophylactics - following the increased understanding of the disease, in the last 10-15 years there are new immunotherapies available (COPAXON / TEVA; Interferon -beta). However these can attenuate the disease (reduce the number of relapses per year) but are not cure. Also, they are beneficial in only ~40 % of the Relapsing -Remitting patients. Currently there are no biomarkers available for MS (other than oligoclonal IgG in the CSF - which help confirm diagnosis but require invasive procedure and are not correlated with disease activity nor response to therapy) and - monitoring of MS and its treatment is by MRI - which is expensive. Dr Hossam Haick from the Technion developed an electronic nose based nanomaterials for diagnosis of diseases (e.g., cancer, kidney failure, etc.) via breath samples.The research hypothesis is that Biomarkers of CNS inflammation and/or neurodegeneration and/or CNS repair can be detected by "electronic nose".
The purpose of this study was to collect long-term safety and tolerability, long-term efficacy, and health outcome data in all patients currently ongoing in the fingolimod multiple sclerosis clinical development program. This study combined all currently ongoing Phase II and III fingolimod extension studies as well as ongoing and newly planned studies into one single long-term extension protocol that provided patients with continuous treatment until fingolimod was registered, commercially available, and reimbursed in the respective countries.
This study is planned to evaluate emotional disorders during treatment by interferon (IFN) beta in relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) subjects. This is an open-label exploratory study with no change of therapeutic behavior but with standardized neuropsychologic follow-up.

This was a phase 2a study of MLN1202 to determine safety, tolerability and initial efficacy in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). It was conducted in 2 dose cohorts enrolling a total of 50 patients. Efficacy was assessed by comparing the numbers of new gadolinium-enhancing brain lesions during the screening and treatment periods.

The aim of this multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of supplementary treatment with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) in subjects with relapsing multiple sclerosis (R MS) treated with subcutaneous (s.c.) interferon beta-1a 44 microgram (mcg) [Rebif] 3 times weekly. The subjects will be divided into 2 groups, one receiving cholecalciferol 100,000 IU twice monthly along with Rebif treatment and the other group will be on placebo along with Rebif treatment. A total of 200 subjects will be recruited in 20-30 centres in France.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease which causes inflammation and destruction of the nerves in within the brain and the spinal cord. This disease is one of the most common causes of disability in young adults. A ''relapse'' is a phenomenon that occurs when there is an acute attack of disability as a result of an acute attack on the nervous system. There is usually some degree of recovery after a relapse. Rebif is licensed in the United Kingdom for the treatment of relapsing MS and is given 3 times a week by injections under the skin. The RebiSmart device is a new injection device which has been developed to help patients with injecting their Rebif treatment. Currently, all treatments for MS are injectable and require long term patient commitment. Patient compliance to treatment is important for the therapy to work effectively and decrease the risk of relapse episodes. Using a device that makes it easy for patients to inject may potentially improve compliance to treatment and therefore potentially have an impact on the number of relapses patients experience. The RebiSmart device has been developed for patients to inject conveniently and in comfort. The device allows the patient to control certain parameters such as needle depth, needle speed, injection time etc, and also has extra features designed to ease the injection process, such as a dose history calendar and an onâscreen injection guide. The aim of this study is to determine what percentage of patients liked using the RebiSmart device and found it ''easy'' or ''very easy'' to use. The study will also determine which of the device features were most useful to the patients.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) and is one of the most common causes of neurological disability in young adults. Rebif is licensed in the United Kingdom for the treatment of relapsing MS and is given 3 times per week by subcutaneous injection. The Rebiject II device is an autoinjector which allows patients easier administration of their Rebif injections. Prior to treatment, patients receive training on the use of the device and its maintenance. Currently, all treatments for MS are injectable and require long term patient commitment. Rebiject has been developed to improve patient convenience and comfort but does require multiple steps to be carried out in order for the injection to be delivered correctly. Reports from our local call centre and nurse advisors suggest that inaccuracies of use with the Rebiject device are common. By raising awareness of the level of inaccuracy and determining which steps patients are most likely not to complete correctly, modified training programs or modifications to current subject training may be put into place to address these issues. It is also important to demonstrate the link between poor use of the medication device and increased relapse rates or increased injection site reactions.
