Filter by:The purpose of this study is to compare standardized nutrition therapy provided by a registered dietitian (RD) at regularly scheduled intervals to usual care in terms of the ability to improve growth parameters in medically complex infants in the pediatric outpatient setting.
To describe the prevalence of undernutrition in infants and children admitted to Assiut university children hospital and to describe risk group and decrease length of stay in hospital.
It is well known than an important part of Nigerian children from the lower social economic class have nutrient deficiencies. Fortified products, such as growing up milks (GUM), may play an important role in reducing the risk and incidence of nutrient deficiencies. However, affordability of GUM is an issue. In this project the effects are studied of different daily intakes of GUM on iron status, growth, several other nutrient status parameters in blood and urine, cognitive development, and the intestinal microbiome in Nigerian toddlers 1-3 years of age. The project is a collaboration with the department of Paediatrics and Child health of the Lagos State University College of Medicine in Lagos. The design is based on a three-arm, open (partly blind: statistics, biochemical analyses), randomized intervention trial. Recruitment will take place in Ijora-Badia community in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos. The three groups will be given a multi-micronutrient fortified growing-up milk (PEAK), in amounts of 200, 400 or 600 ml per day during a period of 6 months. Primary objective of this study is to reduce iron deficiency anemia. Based on this objective, in total 150 children have to be included in this study.
The primary goal of this study is to prevent undernutrition and obesity in peri-urban areas of Colombia. This study is designed to evaluate the impact of promoting adequate feeding practices and the use of SQ-LNS (Small Quantity Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements) on the nutritional status of infants and young children. The study will be conducted in peri-urban areas of Pasto, Colombia in conjunction with Fundación Saldarriaga Concha and the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

Sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass and function) can be observed at any age and results of multiple factors (age, activity, inflammatory factors, nutritional status...). It deeply impacts the physical performance and the basal metabolism, and induces cardiovascular disorders, dyslipidemia, and diabetes. Sarcopenia appears like an independent factor decreasing the quality of life, exacerbating the toxicity of chemotherapy and increasing mortality for gastrointestinal cancer. However, few studies have demonstrated his impact on postoperative course in digestive oncology. The search for sarcopenia, complementary nutritional status, is now a source of great interest with 62 ongoing projects in the United States. The first objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of preoperative sarcopenia on 30-days morbidity and mortality of patients operated on from poor prognosis gastrointestinal cancer (liver and pancreas). The second objective is to evaluate the impact of preoperative sarcopenia on the long term outcomes (12 months) on the same patients.
This open-label, prospective, controlled intervention study involves evaluating tolerance and acceptability of an Oral Nutrition Supplement (ONS; EnergieShake® 1.5 kcal Complete drink) in 18 adult patients who are already taking an ONS. Following a 2-day baseline data collection on their current ONS, patients switch to the test ONS, which is taken for a further 8 consecutive days. Patients revert to their current ONS at the end of the study. Patients act as their own controls and thus all patients are allocated the same intervention. Daily records of GI tolerance and compliance with the prescribed amount of ONS will be kept for participants throughout the study period. Participants' height and weight will be collected at baseline (weight at end will also be collected), all medications will be documented, and relevant medical and dietary histories will be recorded. A questionnaire at the end of the intervention period will be administered collecting participants' views on the acceptability (taste and palatability) of the test ONS. Taste and palatability will be assessed via a questionnaire that uses a Hedonic scale to quantify preference.
