The Need of Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy for Placing an Endobronchial Blocker

The need of fiberoptic bronchoscopy for placing an endobronchial blocker. Endobronchial blockers (EBB) have been presented effective and safe alternative for lung separation in vedio-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) operations. In this study, the investigators will randomize the patients receiving VATS operation with EBB into two groups: one group will receive the conventional bronchoscopic guided EBBs placement, the other group receive two step procedure without confirmation by fiberoptic bronchoscopy.

Intermittent or Continuous Acetylsalicylic Acid and Gene Expression in the Nasal Tissue of Current Smokers

This randomized phase II trial studies the safety and effects of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) taken continuously or intermittently on gene expression in the nasal tissue of current smokers. Smokers are at increased risk of developing lung cancer. Acetylsalicylic acid may be useful in preventing lung cancer.

Hemodynamic Changes During One Lung Ventilation in Non-intubated Vedio-assisted Thoracoscopic Operations

Non-intubated thoracoscopic surgery has been proved as an adequate alternative for management of many lung conditions such as pneumothorax , lung volume reduction, pulmonary metastasectomy, removal of lung nodules, segmentectomy and lobectomy. However, the hemodynamic changes during one lung ventilation have not been fully investigated. The goals of this study are to compare the changes of hemodynamics (including blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac output, pulse pressure variation, fluid responsiveness) during one lung ventilation between conventional intubated and non-intubated vedio-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) operations.

The Immunotherapy of Nasopharyngeal Cancer Using Cancer Stem Cells Vaccine

Most studies of cancer stem cells (CSC) involve the inoculation of cells from human tumors into immunosuppressed mice, preventing an assessment on the immunologic interactions and effects of CSCs. In this study, the investigators examined the vaccination effects produced by CSC-enriched populations from histologically distinct murine tumors after their inoculation into different syngeneic immunocompetent hosts. Enriched CSCs were immunogenic and more effective as an antigen source than unselected tumor cells in inducing protective antitumor immunity.Immune sera from CSC-vaccinated hosts contained high levels of IgG which bound to CSCs, resulting in CSC lysis in the presence of complement.CTLs generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells or splenocytes harvested from CSC-vaccinated hosts were capable of killing CSCs in vitro. Mechanistic investigations established that CSC-primed antibodies and T cells were capable of selective targeting CSCs and conferring antitumor immunity.

Study of Blood, Tumor and Adjacent Normal Tissue Samples From Chinese Smoking Induced Lung Cancer Patients

This is an epidemiological,multicenter study of genomic and expression profiles of patients with newly diagnosed NSCLC.Two hundred and fifty NSCLC patients who fulfill the criteria are to be recruited by investigational sites.Approximately 100 of them will be from retrospectively collected samples with detailed clinical and 2-year follow-up information after surgeries.The demographics,cancer/adjacent normal tissue and matched blood sample will be collected after the patient had provided informed consent.All tissue samples will be analyzed for somatic mutations by exome deep sequencing,mRNA expression profiling by RNA sequencing and chromosome copy number variation by SNP array at the designated laboratories.
