RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy with docetaxel, gemcitabine, and cisplatin as induction therapy in treating patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer.

It is not yet known whether Onconase plus doxorubicin is more effective than doxorubicin alone in treating patients with malignant mesothelioma. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying doxorubicin alone to see how well it works compared to doxorubicin and Onconase in treating patients with malignant mesothelioma.

PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy using two different doses of cyclophosphamide followed by alternating chemotherapy and radiation therapy in treating patients with small cell lung cancer.
