Lung cancer (LC) is a common cancer in the world. Among all symptoms, Fatigue is considered as the most distressing medical condition of LC. Prior studies revealed that physical activity effectively relieve fatigue and related problems. The current study attempt to explore the effectiveness of SMART Exercise Support Program (SES) with the use of mobile instant messaging application, on reducing symptoms such as fatigue, and improving physical activity level, physical fitness performance, sleep quality and habits, and quality of life in advanced lung cancer (ALC) patients.

Personalised Diet, Exercise and Emotional Support for Lung Cancer Patients Having Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy or Immunotherapy Treatment

Background The term 'prehabilitation' refers to a period of time before treatment and often includes diet, exercise and/or wellbeing plans to help patients through their cancer treatment. Prehabilitation has shown to benefit patients having surgery, but there is little research into its use in the oncological setting. The United Kingdom sees more deaths from lung cancer than any other cancer. 70-80% of lung cancer patients receive oncological treatment. Treatment side effects can have a significant impact on quality of life. Personalised prehabilitation can take into account the challenges patients face, helping patients through treatment. Aim To see if a personalised plan of diet, exercise and emotional support can be used in practice for patients having chemotherapy, radiotherapy and/or immunotherapy treatment for lung cancer. Methods The study will involve lung cancer patients from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust who are: - Over the age of 18 years old - Have not had previous lung cancer surgery and - Are about to start chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunotherapy treatment The prehabilitation interventions will be based upon patient need and readiness, assessed using: - A series of questionnaires - An assessment of walking - A measure of grip strength These will be done prior to, at week three and at week six of a patient's oncological treatment regime. Personalised goals will be agreed at each stage. Throughout treatment, patients will be asked to keep a daily diary to record their symptoms, appetite, mobility and mood. The diary will also be used to monitor goal adherence. Public involvement Patients will be part of a study advisory group, helping with research design and dissemination e.g. with the presentation of findings to the lung cancer support group. Dissemination All patients will receive a written summary of findings. Results will be shared in a scientific journal and presented at relevant conferences. Patients will not be identifiable.

Exercise in Extended Oncogene Addicted Lung Cancer in Active Treatment

This is an interventional, non-pharmacologic, randomized controlled study evaluating the impact on quality of life of a personalized exercise program in oncogene addicted lung cancer patients undergoing active treatment. Patients will be randomized 1:1 in two arms: arm A (interventional) and arm B (control). The program of physical activity will be established after a test done at the local clinical center and based on easy exercises already studied in other diseases (e.g. coronary syndrome or organ transplant). A smartphone application will allow patients to register their daily physical activity and to easily recover data on strength and endurance. Patients in Arm A will have a home-based physical activity prescription and will be supervised at weeks: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 by the oncologist and an exercise expert of the local sport center through three exercises (body composition test, endurance test and strength test) and questionnaires. Home-based activity will be monitored daily though a specific application (provided by Technogym). Patients in Arm B will receive an exercise counselling without a subsequent supervision. The three tests and questionnaires will be repeated once a month for three months at the local sport center and oncology center. Counselling will include general information on exercise. Patients will undergo blood sampling at baseline, week 4 and week 12 in order to evaluate changes in their immunological state (lymphocyte populations and cytokines).

This clinical trial develops a tailored screening and smoking cessation program for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (trans) and queer (LGBTQ) community of Seattle, Washington. A lung cancer screening program may help LGTBQ people who smoke overcome unique barriers that keep them from receiving preventive care, and constantly facing healthcare discrimination. Members of the LGBTQ community have historically smoked at higher rates than the general population and thus could benefit greatly from targeted efforts to improve lung cancer screening and smoking cessation implementation.

Camu-Camu Prebiotic and Immune Checkpoint Inhibition in Patients With Non-small Cell Lung Cancer and Melanoma

Modulating the gut microbiome to improve response to immune-checkpoint inhibitors is an active area of study. Prebiotic substances (compounds which positively shift the gut microbiome) are a reliable and safe method of gut microbiome modulation. Data suggest that the berry Camu Camu (CC), also known as Myrciaria dubia has prebiotic potential to enrich Akkermansia muciniphila, a bacterium shown to alleviate metabolic disorders and improve ICI efficacy in preclinical models. Our primary objective is to assess the safety and tolerability of CC prebiotic in patients with advanced NSCLC and melanoma in combination with standard-of-care ICI.
