Filter by:Background: - The drugs FdCyd (also called 5-fluoro-2'-deoxycytidine) and THU (also called tetrahydrouridine) are being used in a cancer treatment study. Not a lot is known about how FdCyd works in the body. Researchers want to look at a modified form of FdCyd using imaging studies to see how the drug reacts with the cancer. This study is not a treatment study. It is open only to people who are already on the FdCyd and THU cancer treatment study. Objectives: - To study how FdCyd affects advanced cancer cells. Eligibility: - Participants in National Cancer Institute study 09-C-0214. Design: - Participants will have two imaging studies, one before starting FdCyd and THU treatment and one after starting treatment. - Participants will have the modified FdCyd, known as F-18 FdCyd, with a dose of THU. The doses will be followed by two imaging study scans and frequent blood samples. - This procedure will be repeated at a later date, during the FdCyd and THU treatment period. - Treatment will not be provided as part of this study. This is an imaging study protocol only....
This screening study will address the lack of molecular strategies for the early detection of lung cancer and integrate those with epidemiological and imaging strategies. The hypothesis is that the repeated measure of biomarkers of risk obtained from the molecular analysis of biological specimens including those from bronchoscopy (bronchial brushings and biopsies) may contribute to the refinement of high-risk populations and allow an earlier clinical diagnosis. The goal of the investigators study is to provide screening for lung cancer in a high-risk population. In this prospective cohort it will be tested whether repeated measure of biomarkers of risk allows early detection of lung cancer.
The purpose of this study is to learn about the effects of cancer treatment on the brain. Some cancer patients report changes in their memory or thinking after treatment. These changes could be a result of changes in brain structure, such as a change in size or thickness of different parts of the brain. The investigators will look to see if these changes in brain structure happen through the results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The investigators will do this by looking at the brain structure of lung cancer patients who have surgery and chemotherapy versus those who have surgery only.
The main purpose for this study is to answer the following research questions: - Can pemetrexed be administered safely at the participant's home, using the same treatment procedure as in a hospital setting? - Will the participant be satisfied with home care? - How might this impact the participant's quality of life? - What are the required medical resources needed to give pemetrexed in a home setting?
This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and the best dose of MLN8237 when given together with erlotinib hydrochloride and to see how well it works in treating patients with recurrent locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). MLN8237 and erlotinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
The purpose of this trial is to determine whether Ipilimumab will prolong survival when compared to Pemetrexed in subjects with nonsquamous, non-small cell lung cancer.
The purpose of this study is to study the effect of an anticancer drug, Arsenic Trioxide, in patients with small cell lung cancer who have failed at least one standard chemotherapy regimen as well as patients who are unable to tolerate the standard treatment for their cancer. The investigators seek to establish the safety of and efficacy of Arsenic Trioxide in this patient group. The study will include up to 36 participants with small cell lung cancer. The investigators want to find out what effects, good or bad, that the study drug has on your cancer. This study will also look at specific biomarkers in your blood and in the tumor tissue which may help the investigators to determine if the levels of these biomarkers are related to tumor response to treatment. Arsenic Trioxide, also known by the brand name, Trisenox, is a chemotherapy drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of a specific type of blood cancer called Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. It works in part by making cancer cells become more mature thereby stopping them from growing in number and more likely to die off.
The purpose of the study is to understand why Hispanic/Latino patients with lung cancer are diagnosed later than other groups.
This is a randomised, open-label, phase IIb trial of afatinib to compare to gefitinib in first-line treatment setting with patients who are having epidermal growth factor receptor mutation positive advanced adenocarcinoma of the lung.
This is a open single-center, explorative, Phase I pilot dose finding study including patients treated with AXL1717 in addition to standard chemotherapy of gemcitabine HCL and carboplatin.
