Filter by:Due to breathing and other motions, tumours, such as breast and lung cancer, as well as their surrounding organs (e.g. the heart), move, which poses a challenge for radiotherapy treatment. Reducing or even stopping breathing, e.g. by irradiating during inspiration, is a way to decrease tumour and organ motion resulting in a reliable target coverage with smaller margins. These smaller margins can result in a better sparing of normal tissues. Furthermore, in some patients, during inspiration, the heart may move away from the target volume making it possible to better spare the heart. Finally, during inspiration, the lung volume is larger and the lung density is lower, which can lead to a lower dose to the surrounding normal lung tissue. Reduction of radiation dose to normal tissues leads to less radiation-induced toxicity. This makes treating breast and lung cancer patients in breath hold (BH) conditions an attractive strategy. Standard BH durations in RT treatment are around 20 seconds, which is not enough to perform a complete CBCT. The health status of lung cancer patients is generally worse compared to breast cancer patients, making it more difficult to treat this patient group during breath hold. Nasal High Flow Therapy (NHFT) is a non-invasive system that provides controlled oxygen concentrations and low levels of positive pressure via a nasal interface. NHFT improves oxygenation in diverse patient groups, and is increasingly used as an alternative to mechanical ventilatory support. It has been shown to be a safe device in several clinical situations and patient populations, such as COPD patients, but also in apneic conditions under general anesthesia.
Among 13 core symptoms across 3,106 breast, colorectal, prostate, and lung cancer patients, persons with lung cancer were the most symptomatic, with moderate to severe fatigue being reported with the greatest prevalence. This is a proposed randomized controlled trial of a novel rehabilitative intervention for persons with non-small cell lung cancer after surgery that promotes self-management of cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and is practical, portable, low cost, and safe. The results of the study will provide a novel exercise intervention, and its optimal timing, that helps a vulnerable population by reducing CRF severity and fatigability and is applicable to nearly all post-thoracotomy lung cancer patients.
In this study, about 2000 GGO patients will be included for a 5-year follow-up. The aim of this study is to elucidate the biological nature of pulmonary GGO lesion and provide evidence for GGO treatment.
Patients with medically inoperable and operable secondary soft tissue lesion(s) of the lung will have transbronchial microwave ablation performed using cone beam CT for probe guidance and confirmation.
Endostar is a anti-angiogenesis product and has been launched in China . The efficacy and safety have been defined. However, the compliance is unsatisfactory since routine i.v of Endostar is needed for 3 to 4 hours daily during one cycle of 14 days. The continuous intravenous infusion by using venous pump can improve the compliance.
This study's goal is to find out if the kind of side effects people experience from radiation is different depending on the schedule of their radiation treatment. Patients will be randomly assigned to either the 3 Fraction or 5 Fraction schedule of radiation. After patients complete radiation treatment, they will follow up with their radiation oncologist.
The trial is designed as a prospective observational single arm study investigating stage IV non-small cell lung cancer patients who are routinely treated with a PD-1 inhibitor for indications approved by Health Canada. All patients who are selected will be referred for palliative thoracic radiotherapy and treated with a standard dose prescription of 30 Gy in 10 fractions.
Currently, it is the standard of care practice to perform daily routine CXR when a chest tube is in situ following pulmonary resection. However, previous research as well as experience of thoracic surgeons suggested this kind of management has poor diagnostic and therapeutic value. Eliminating daily routine CXR for adult patients having undergone pulmonary surgery might decrease the frequency of radiation exposure and hospitalization costs per patient without increasing reintervention rates, length of hospital stays, readmission rates or any adverse events.
This study is conducted to explore the safety and efficacy of anlotinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitors of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2(VEGFR)、FGFR(Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor), Platelet-derived growth factor Receptor(PDGFR) and c-kit, vs docetaxel in advanced Non-squamous Non-small cell lung cancer harbouring wild-type epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) .
The objective of this protocol is to develop an institution-wide liquid biopsy protocol that will establish a common process for collecting blood and corresponding archived tumor specimens for future research studies at the University Health Network's Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Circulating cell-free nucleic acids (cfNA), including cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and cell-free RNA (cfRNA), are non-invasive, real-time biomarkers that can provide diagnostic and prognostic information before cancer diagnosis, during cancer treatment, and at disease progression. Cancer research scientists and clinicians at the Princess Margaret are interested in incorporating the collection of peripheral blood samples ("liquid biopsies") into research protocols as a means of non-invasively assessing tumor progression and response to treatment at multiple time points during a patient's course of disease.
