Dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRG-S) may be able to treat mechanical pain caused by tissue injury or damage such as trauma or arthritis in addition to pain caused by nerve dysfunction or injury. The purpose of this study is to determine if dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRG-S) can effectively treat arthritic pain of the knee.

Determinants for Return to Work After Primary Knee Arthroplasty

The increase of end-stage osteoarthritis (OA) in an increasingly younger population is directly correlated with the rising incidence of obesity. As a result, knee arthroplasty (KA), which is a definitive end-stage treatment option, is increasingly performed on working age people. Knowledge and understanding of the underlying factors that drive the ability for people to return to work is crucial. First and foremost, the investigators would have like to have a clear idea of the percentage of patients who return to work and at what time postoperatively. The investigators would also determine the different factors influencing employment in the patient population after undergoing a knee arthroplasty and register the evolution in the necessity of pain medication pre-and postoperatively. Ideally, the investigators can include a short questionnaire regarding return to sports to gather valuable information.

Nickel Sensitivity

The purpose of this study is to compare clinical outcomes of patients with self reported nickel sensitivity undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with conventional, standard-of-care vs nickel-free implants. The hypothesis is that patients with a self-reported nickel sensitivity will have similar patient reported outcome scores compared to those patients without reported nickel sensitivity. Therefor the anticipation is for there to be no differences in other clinical outcome measures or functional outcome scores between the two cohorts.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the commonest chronic degenerative conditions affecting our aging population. It limits joint movement and causing disability in elderlies due to discordant symptoms such as pain and stiffness. The prevalence of radiologic knee osteoarthritis increases in proportion to age, reaching an astounding 64.1% for patients whom are over 60 years of age. In addition the prevalence of symptomatic knee OA has been shown to be around 10% in people who are 60 years and older.

Persona Cohort Nordic Multicenter Study

In this project the investigators wish to: Evaluate intra-operative and postop complications, longer term survivorship and patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) following primary total knee replacement using Persona Total Knee system. This project is carried out as prospective cohort study. Recruitment of participants to this project is expected to begin in October 2016 or as soon as permission from the Regional Ethics Committee and the local Data Protection Agency is obtained as required. A total of 700 participants (including 155 participants from a randomized controlled trial (RCT) investigating the Persona and the Nexgen total knee systems, which is separately submitted to the ethics committee) are to be included at several centers in the nordic region. Recruitment is expected complete after a period of 1,5 years per site. The patient follow-up visits are expected to be completed 2 years after recruitment of the last participant. Survivorship will be collected until 10 years after the recruitment of the last participant. Participants are seen on an outpatient basis at 3 months and 1 and 2 years postoperatively. After the 2 year follow-up visit the patients recruited in the Scandinavian sites will be followed for survivorship through the National Knee Arthroplasty Registries at 5, 7 and 10 years postoperatively. Since France does not have a national registry, the French site will also perform 5 year follow-up visits.
