Poplar-type Propolis Dry Extract ESIT12 : Immunomodulation Efficacy Study

The aim of the present investigation is to evaluate the immunomodulation effect of ESIT12, a poplar-type propolis dry extract standardized in polyphenols, and its efficacy in subjects at risk of contracting upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), during a 12-week supplementation period plus 4-week follow-up. The number of onset of upper respiratory tract infections, the symptoms severity and lasting and interferences with well-being will be assessed with WURSS-24 questionnaire. The quality of life will be assessed with the SF-36 questionnaire and a testimonial. Blood immune markers will also be assessed. Finally, long lasting benefits will additionally be evaluated 4 weeks after end of the supplementation period. The design of the study is double-blind, randomized, parallel and placebo controlled.

Bacterial Air Contamination

Aim is to compare the effect of number of persons and time-dependant bacterial air contamination on sterile goods, using different preparation conditions and protective sterile covers. Research questions Is there a difference in bacterial air contamination during preparation of the sterile surgical goods with 2 persons (intervention) compared with 4-5 persons (control) in the OR? Is there a time-dependent difference in bacterial air contamination pending surgery for 1 hour (control) compared to approximately 12 hours (intervention) when the sterile goods are protected with sterile covers? Is there a time-dependent difference in bacterial air contamination pending surgery if sterile goods are protected or not, by sterile covers? Is there any differences in surgical site infections between the groups? What type of bacteria contain the air contamination? Is there antibiotic resistant bacterial air contamination?

Predictive Value of Nu.Q™ Biomarkers to Help Guiding the Management of Osteoarticular Infections

Diabetic foot ulcers are frequent with average lifetime risk of 15%, and can lead to bone and joint infections. Current protocols for their management include evaluation of ischemia, assessment of underlying bone infection, sharp debridement, off-loading and use of dressings that promote moist wound healing. Extensive debridement is optimal for wound healing and decreases the risk of recurrence. However, extension of surgical debridement is left at the clinician judgement and thus lacks standardised protocols. Plus, there is currently no known risk factors or specific biomarkers that can help guide the clinician for the extent of debridement or that can predict a recurrence in case of non-extensive debridement. The main objectives of the study are to either unravel a new biomarker, and/or identify risk factors associated with poor prognosis following surgical debridement in diabetic foot ulcers. Histones, more specifically H3.1 subtype, have been associated with sepsis. The main hypothesis is that higher blood levels of H3.1 will be present in participants showing poor prognosis (i.e., having additional surgeries, amputation, death) and that a rise in H3.1 blood levels compared to baseline (before the 1st surgical intervention) would provide an early warning of relapse or treatment failure.

Therapeutic goals for patients hospitalized for COVID-19 include hastening recovery and preventing progression to critical illness, multiorgan failure, or death. Our objective is to determine whether modulating the host tissue response improves clinical outcomes among patients with COVID-19.

A RCT of the Efficacy of Vonoprazan 20mg QD in the Treatment of Helicobacter Pylori Infection

The treatment of helicobacter pylori is very important. The routine treatment is quadruple therapy. In recent years, double therapy has appeared and the curative effect is fair. However, antacid generally uses proton pump inhibitor. The proton pump inhibitor needs double dose to achieve good antacid curative effect. The effect of vonoprazan used for inhibiting gastric acid is better than proton pump inhibitor. At present, many studies use vonoprazan instead of common proton pump inhibitor, but almost all use double dose of vonoprazan. In the previous study, we found that the effect of double dose of proton pump inhibitor can be achieved with 20mg QD of vonoprazan. Therefore, in this study, 20mg QD of vonoprazan was used to replace the double dose of proton pump inhibitor to observe the antibacterial effect of vonoprazan on Helicobacter pylori.

This phase Ib trial evaluates the safety and most effective dose of a cytomegalovirus (CMV) pp65 peptide-loaded alpha-type-1 polarized dendritic cell (CMV-alphaDC1) vaccination in patients who are undergoing an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant. CMV is an opportunistic infection that can occur or reactivate after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant as a result of immunosuppression. The CMV-alphaDC1 vaccine is made of white blood cells that have been exposed to molecules called cytokines, as well as CMV proteins. Introducing these dendritic cells to the patients immune system may activate an immune response to CMV, protecting against infection or reactivation.
