Filter by:The treatment response with conventional interferon alpha alone in patients with end stage renal disease and chronic hepatitis C is about 33-39%. However, the drop-out rate is 17-29.6%. Pegylated interferon alpha, a newly developed form of interferon with superior pharmacokinetic profiles, has not been used to treatment these patients. We expect the better treatment response treated with peginterferon alpha than conventional interferon. In addition, we also observe the safety of the two drugs during the study. The goal of the study is to compare the efficacy and safety of the two different treatment regimens in patients with chronic hepatitis C and end stage renal disease.
This Phase 3 clinical study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of two dose levels of Infergen (interferon alfacon-1, CIFN) plus Ribavirin administered daily for 48 weeks and no treatment in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C who are nonresponders to previous pegylated interferon alfa plus ribavirin therapy and participated during at least 24 weeks of no treatment in IRHC-001. At the time of randomization into IRHC-001, the no treatment arm patients will be concurrently randomized in a 1:1 ration to receive Interferon Alfacon-1 (9 or 15 µg) + Ribavirin (both administered daily) or no treatment for up to 48 weeks. Patients will not be eligible for consideration to receive treatment in IRHC-002 until they have completed a minimum of 24 weeks of participation in IRHC-001. The protocol and informed consent form that will be used must be approved by the Investigator's Institutional Review Board (IRB)/Independent Ethics Committee (IEC) before the study is initiated.
The primary objective of this study is to determine the safe and effective dose range of boceprevir (SCH 503034) in combination with PEG-Intron in adult subjects who have chronic hepatitis C without cirrhosis, and who have failed an adequate course of combination therapy with peginterferon-alfa plus ribavirin. A secondary objective is to explore whether ribavirin provides an additional benefit when combined with PEG-Intron plus boceprevir.
Chronic hepatitis C is a liver disease related to a virus: hepatitis C virus (HCV). The type of HCV present in Egypt (genotype 4), has the reputation to respond poorly to Interferon treatment at the chronic stage. Pegylated Interferon is a new form of Interferon that stays in the body for longer time and allows the patient to take less injection per week. It has proved to be more effective than standard Interferon. The combination of two drugs, Interferon and Ribavirin, is considered to be the best treatment available for chronic hepatitis C.
The objective of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of celgosivir for 12 weeks in patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 infection.
Taiwan is a hyperendemic area of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Previous studies demonstrated vigorous T cell responses to HBV-encoded antigens developed in patients with self-limited acute hepatitis B. In contrast, weak or no T cell responses could be detected in chronic hepatitis B (CH-B) patients. However, these immune responses are still not well known in patients with acute exacerbation (AE) of CH-B and in patients with advanced liver diseases, such as liver cirrhosis (LC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells might suppress immune responses against foreign antigens and pathogens. The roles of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in patients chronically infected with HBV remain to be clarified. The high percentage of HBV carriers in Taiwan are related to the vertical transmissions. High maternal HBV viral load may make the newborns tolerant to the HBV. However, the HBV-specific CD8+ T cells responses in the cord bloods of newborns are still unknown. Thus, we want to resolve these issues in this study. We will enroll the HBsAg (+) patients from NTUH. Blood samples will be collected. We will then analyze the HBV-specific CD8+ T cell responses and the clarify the roles of regulatory T cells.
Open-label, single centre study evaluating efficacy and viral kinetics of combination PEG-IFNa2a and Ribavirin treatment on CHC genotype 1 patients, administered until viral clearance demonstrated between 4 – 12 weeks, then randomised to further continued combination treatment for one of three defined durations. Followed-up for 24 weeks after treatment cessation. Objectives: 1. To determine the necessary duration of combination treatment with Pegylated-Interferon alfa2a (PEGASYS) & Ribavirin in Patients infected with genotype 1, in order to achieve viral clearance 2. To identify host factors, which are associated with different patterns of virological response to combination treatment (fast responder, slow responder, non-responder). On this basis, to identify possible predictors for the duration of antiviral treatment.
Viral hepatitis C is treated with peg-interferon alpha 2a/2b and ribavirin. There is no treatment recommended for non responders patients. This study will evaluate the efficacy, after a second treatment with peg-interferon alpha 2a and ribavirin for 12 Weeks of the addition of interferon gamma in non responders patients
