Diabetes Acute Complications and Health Literacy in Children

In this study, in which education on acute complications of type 1 diabetes is planned with board games based on Bandura's social learning theory, children can indirectly learn common points that they may hear about acute complications of diabetes by watching board games of other group members. In line with this theory, children's knowledge needs regarding acute complications of diabetes can be determined, and interventions can be planned to meet the determined needs of children. Thus, the level of knowledge of diabetes health literacy for acute complications of diabetes can be increased. This study will be carried out in a randomized controlled manner to evaluate the effect of educational play in children on acute complications of diabetes and health literacy.

Personalized Mobile Intervention to Reduce Exposure to Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Adults of Child-Bearing Age

The goal of this intervention study is to determine to what extent the Million Marker (MM) program reduces users' endocrine disruption chemical (EDC) exposure levels and changes their environmental health awareness and behaviors. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Can the investigators see a reduction in EDC levels in participants' urine samples after using the MM Detect and Detox kit? - Can the investigators see a change in participants' environmental health literacy, knowledge, and behaviors after using MM's products and services? - How can Million Marker improve their app and platform to improve the user experience? Participants will collect their urine pre- and post-intervention, and will take a comprehensive exposure survey (via the MM app) before sending back their samples. This exposure survey will ask about participant's product use, diet, and lifestyle behaviors. Participants will also fill out surveys pre- and post-intervention assessing their perception of environmental health, as well as usability of the platform.

The Effect of Asthma Education Given by Taking Health Literacy Into Account

The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to examine the effect of education given to asthmatic children and their parents by taking health literacy into account on disease self-management. The study was conducted with 88 children and their parents between October 2018 and July 2019. While education and booklets were given to both children and parents in intervention group 1, only the children were given the education and the booklets in intervention group 2. There was no intervention applied for the control group. Post-test was performed 3 weeks after the education and then follow-ups were carried out in the next three months over the phone.

Effectiveness of Mobile Health on Frailty, Muscle Strength and Health Literacy of the Elderly

This study explores the effect of mobile health combined with multi-course intervention on frailty, muscle strength, health literacy and nutrition knowledge among the elderly in the community. A longitudinal, repeated test quasi-experimental design was adopted to convenient sampling. Four community care bases in northern Taiwan were selected, and 2 experimental groups and 2 control groups were assigned by computer lottery to participate in the study. 60 in the experimental group and 60 in the control group. The experimental group received the combination of mobile health and multi-course intervention, and the control group only received the intervention of multi-course. The three measurement time points of the tracking effect of the two groups were: before intervention, after 4-times interventions, and after 12-times interventions. The following data were collected in the two groups: frailty assessment, grip strength, lower limb muscle strength, health literacy scale and nutrition knowledge scale. Statistical data were analyzed by SPSS26.0 software. Descriptive statistics include: percentage, mean, standard deviation; inferential statistics include: independent sample t test, chi-square test, generalized estimation model.

Comparison of the Health Literacy of Our Patients Who Quit Smoking and Who Cannot Quit Smoking

The aim of the study was determined to examine the relationship between the health literacy scales of the patients who came to the smoking cessation clinic and their smoking cessation success. The patient follow-up files registered in the archive of the smoking cessation clinic will be scanned for the last 2 years and the demographic data and follow-up information of the patients will be reached. Patients who have completed the 1-year follow-up period will be contacted by phone, questioning whether they smoke or not, and will be invited to answer the health literacy scale. Accepting patients will be divided into two groups as those who quit smoking and those who cannot, and health literacy scales will be compared.

Patient Centered Care in Diabetes in Ecuador

Introduction: According to World Health Organization data, it is estimated that more than 422 million people have diabetes. In Ecuador, diabetes is the second cause of death, only after ischemic heart disease, and is the first chronic non-communicable disease. The complexity of the pathology, its difficult management and the patient's commitment and involvement in their own care has led health systems to seek mechanisms to activate patients. Currently, tools have been developed, Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREM) and Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM), which seek to reduce this gap between patient and health system. Objectives: To develop and validate PREM and PROM tools for diabetes in the Ecuadorian context. To achieve better clinical results and greater patient satisfaction with the system, thus adding value to the care process of patients with diabetes. Method: This is a study with two components. The first component will focus on the design and validation of PREM and PROM tools in Ecuador. A second component, consisting of a prospective cohort study for the corresponding implementation of the questionnaires obtained and their validation. Expected results: It is expected to involve patients in the care process, thus establishing a framework for achieving better clinical outcomes and greater patient satisfaction with the system.
