NCT ID: NCT03250754 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Headache Disorder

Treatment of Headache Disorders With Acupuncture: Observational Study: OBSERVATIONAL STUDY (HDACU)

HDACU
Start date: March 20, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Headache disorders (HDs), which are characterized by recurrent headache, constitute a public-health problem of enormous proportions, with an impact on both the individual sufferer and society. The stated goals of long-term headache treatment are to reduce the frequency, severity, and disability associated with acute attacks; decrease the reliance on poorly tolerated, ineffective, or unwanted acute pharmacotherapies; and avoid acute headache medication escalation. There is risk for adverse events, leading some patients to refuse prophylactic therapy. Acupuncture is widely used for the treatment of headaches and it may be applied as a single modality as well as part of a more complex treatment program. The objective of this study will be to investigate whether acupuncture in routine clinical practice ((Real World Data) is more effective than treatment of acute migraine attacks or routine care only in reducing headache frequency.

NCT ID: NCT03244735 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Cluster Headache

Efficacy of Modified Atkins Ketogenic Diet in Chronic Cluster Headache: a Prospective Case Series

CCHD
Start date: January 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Atkins diet is a nutritional regimen characterized by ad libitum protein and fat intake, but carbohydrate restriction. It is followed by millions of people around the word as a life-style, but in the last years was proposed as a treatment for the epilepsy, by its capacity to induce the state of ketosis. Since Authors observed that ketosis could be also useful in migraine, and migraine shares some pathophysiological features with cluster headache, The aim of the study is to test the efficacy of Atkins diet in Cluster Headache by an open label one harm observational study.

NCT ID: NCT03228355 Completed - Headache, Migraine Clinical Trials

Headache Inducing Effect of Cromakalim in Migraine Patients

Start date: May 24, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To investigate the role of KATP channels on the cerebral hemodynamic in migraine patients.

NCT ID: NCT03223298 Completed - Clinical trials for Temporomandibular Disorder

Botulinum Toxin Versus Placebo Injections to Temporalis and Masseter Muscles

Start date: August 31, 2018
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study aims to determine whether the injection of botulinum toxin A or placebo (unpreserved 0.9% sodium chloride) into the masseter and temporalis muscles provides pain relief and improved jaw function in those who suffer from myofascial pain disorder. The study hypothesis is that botulinum toxin A injection is superior to placebo. The specific research questions are: 1. Is the injection of botulinum toxin A superior to placebo for the improvement in pain? 2. Is the injection of botulinum toxin A superior to placebo for the improvement in function or quality of life (QOL)? 3. Are there any adverse effects that result from injection of botulinum toxin A or placebo into the masseters and temporalis muscles? Limited data exists to support the use of botulinum toxin A in the management of myofascial pain disorder of the masticatory region. Botulinum toxin A is not FDA approved for intra-muscular injection within the masticatory region. Its use in the masticatory region is considered off-label but performed without significant known complications. This study will provide the opportunity to quantitate and qualitate any complications in a large prospective sample of patients.

NCT ID: NCT03220958 Completed - Clinical trials for Post-Traumatic Headache

Metoclopramide for Post Traumatic Headache

Start date: August 1, 2017
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Nearly 1.5 million patients present to US emergency departments annually following head trauma. Headache is a frequent symptom of victims of head trauma. The purpose of this study is to see if an intravenous medication called metoclopramide can improve the symptoms of patients with acute post-traumatic headache.

NCT ID: NCT03212430 Completed - Headache Clinical Trials

The Effect of Intravenous L-kynurenine (LKYN) on Cerebral Hemodynamics in Healthy Volunteers

Start date: March 1, 2017
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

To measure the cerebral hemodynamic effect of L-kynurenine.

NCT ID: NCT03185130 Completed - Headache Clinical Trials

Intravenous Fluids in Benign Headaches Trial

I-FiBH
Start date: May 16, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Migraine headache has a 1-year period prevalence in the US of 11.7% and accounts for approximately 1.2 million migraine visits to US emergency departments per year . There are numerous studies that discuss treatment for migraine and other benign headaches within the emergency department (ED), however, there are very few that discuss specifically the use of intravenous fluids (IVF) for headache treatment. Many of these studies look at various options for treating migraine and other benign headaches: treatment options include dopamine antagonists, opioids, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), triptans, anti-epileptics and ergot derivatives. Comparisons have been done between many of these treatment options with dopamine antagonists appearing to be the most effective, compared to other treatments The dopamine antagonist with the most evidence and availability for benign headaches is prochlorperazine. Given that IVF administration is a common part of treatment regimen for benign headache patients in the emergency department and given the lack of randomized trials in adults, the investigators aim to study the use of IVF on pain reduction in headache patients in the adult ED. There has been one randomized trial in pediatrics that shows IVF may help in patients with migraines, whereas the adult literature has no randomized control trials and a review of data shows that fluids do not help relieve pain in migraine headache patients. This study will include both adult and pediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department with complaint of benign headache.

NCT ID: NCT03183791 Completed - Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Trials

RELAXaHEAD for Headache Patients (Phase I)

Start date: November 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this research is to assess the utility of smartphone-based progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) for the treatment of headaches. While there are many commercially available electronic diary and mind-body intervention apps for headache, there is little data showing their efficacy. RELAXaHEAD app incorporates the electronic PMR that was successfully used in an earlier epilepsy study and beta tested with headache specialist and migraine patient input. It also is an electric headache diary. This 2-arm randomized controlled study will evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of RELAX for use with headache patients. One arm will be the RELAX group (the RELAXaHEAD app) and the other arm will be a monitored usual care (MUC) group (this group receives standard of care and uses the electronic daily symptom reporting diary). The goals are to assess the feasibility and adherence of the RELAX intervention in persons with headache (Aim 1) and to gather exploratory data on the effects of the RELAX intervention on headache related outcome measures (Aim 2).

NCT ID: NCT03163901 Completed - Clinical trials for Traumatic Brain Injury
