Sealing of Occlusal Dentin Caries in Primary Molars.

BACKGROUND A simple method for arresting dentin caries with a tight seal of the cavity would exclude the need for injection and excavation, reduce the risk for dental fear and possibly postpone or eliminate the need for further treatment. AIM The aim is to evaluate success-rate and children's subjective experience of resin-based sealing (RBS) and resin-modified glass ionomer cement (GIC) for treatment of occlusal dentin caries in primary molars. DESIGN Children aged 2-9 years will be recruited to undergo RBS- or GIC-treatment treatment for occlusal dentin caries in primary molars. A parent will answer the Short Form of Children's Fear Survey (CFSS-DS; parental version). No excavation but etching with 38% phosphoric acid will precede RBS. Topical and local anaesthesia and excavation with high speed bur will precede GIC. Time for treatment will be estimated. The children will rank their experience of each treatment on a 7-grade face scale. The dentist will evaluate the child's experience, cooperation and the overall experience of the treatment on a four-grade scale. The treatment will be evaluated as "without remark" or "defective" after 3, 6, 12, 24 and 36 months. For statistical analysis the Chi-2-test, Wilcoxon-Signed-Rank-test and Paired t-test will be used.

Randomized Clinical Trial of Fissure Sealants Comparing Universal Adhesive With Etch-And-Rinse Adhesive After 24 Month

Objective: This randomized, controlled clinical study aimed to evaluate the performance of one universal adhesive applied with etch-and-rinse or self-etch strategy and one etch-and-rinse adhesive on fissure sealant retention over 24 months. Methodology: 144 sealants were placed on the permanent premolars and molars of 13 subjects. Teeth were divided into three groups SB2(control): Adper Single Bond 2, SBU-ER: Single Bond Universal/etch-and-rinse, SBU-SE: Single Bond Universal/self-etch. After the adhesive application, Fissurit FX was applied and light-cured. Clinical evaluations were done at baseline and at 1 week, 6-, 12-, 18- and 24-month recalls. Visual examination was performed on every visit for evaluation of the sealants. Evaluating criteria were: 1= completely retained; 2= partial loss; 3= total loss. The Pearson Chi-square test was used for each evaluation period.

Retention of Bonded Amalgam Sealants Versus Resin-based Sealants

Dental caries, is one of the major public health problem in Pakistan. Dental sealants are known cost effective preventive measure of dental caries as compared to other preventive measures. Resin based sealants, is a proven treatment of pits and fissure sealants but retention is still problem. This trial will assess the use of amalgam sealants as an effective and retentive preventive measure in preventing dental caries in children as compared to the standard resin-based sealants. The findings of this randomized controlled trial will be used to raise awareness among the health care professionals, help them to choose amalgam sealants as an effective caries prevention method thereby reducing the burden of cost as amalgam is cheaper material compared to resin-based sealants. The research question Is there any difference in the six months retention of bonded amalgam sealants compared to resin-based sealants among 12 to 16 years old children in Karachi
