Filter by:Faecal incontinence is a devastating condition causing psychological stress, affecting daily living and influences quality of life. Faecal incontinence affects 2,2 to 5 % of the adult population. The magnitude of the problem is probably underestimated, because most patients don't discuss this affliction with their general practitioner. A new treatment, sacral nerve stimulation (SNS), has over the last decade given hope to these patients. The treatment is divided in two; first a test operation (PNE-test) has to reveal if the patient will benefit from treatment with permanent sacral nerve stimulation. Second if the patient benefit from the PNE-test, they proceed to final implant. 75-80% of the patients with idiopathic fecal incontinence benefit from the PNE-test, 70% of those get satisfactory functional results and the remaining 30% get suboptimal improvement in continence after permanent unilateral sacral nerve stimulation. The aim of this project is to investigate if bilateral sacral nerve stimulation can produce better fecal continence results than standard unilateral stimulation, through a double blind, randomized crossover study.
Quality of life after rectal surgery is reported to be impaired. Side effects of surgery and/or neoadjuvant treatment as functional disturbances like sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence, anal incontinence or stoma problems are commonly experienced. The investigators hypotheses is that structured rehabilitation program addressing these problems will improve quality of life. A RCT are performed in order to document the effects of the rehabilitation.
Study to assess the effects of 10mg NRL001 on mean anal resting pressure (MARP) when administered as a slow release suppository applied to the anal canal or rectum. In addition, the pharmacokinetics of NRL001 in plasma, adverse events, and any changes in heart rate or blood pressure were to be assessed.
Fecal incontinence is the involuntary leakage of stool from the anus. Doctors at Mayo Clinic are doing a research study to assess the effects of a medication, clonidine, on fecal incontinence and rectal functions in women. Clonidine has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating high blood pressure, but not for treating incontinence and rectal functions. The hypothesis of this study is clonidine will improve fecal incontinence, increase rectal capacity and reduce rectal sensation to a greater extent than placebo in women.
The overall goal of this study is to test whether an electronic pelvic floor questionnaire (e-PAQ-PF) will increase discussion rates of incontinence in a primary care setting.
This is a healthy volunteer three-way crossover study. A total of 12 subjects will receive three single administrations of 1 g rectal suppositories (containing either 5 mg NRL001, 10 mg NRL001 or matching placebo), with a washout period of at least 7 days between dosings. A further 12 subjects will receive three single administrations of 2 g rectal suppositories (containing either 5 mg NRL001, 10 mg NRL001 or matching placebo), again with a 7 day washout period between dosings. The pharmacodynamic response, pharmacokinetics and safety profile will be determined.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new injectable bulking agent for the treatment of fecal incontinence in adult men and women. This study has been designed to assess the safety, effectiveness and performance of Durasphere in adults suffering from fecal incontinence under monitored clinical conditions. The frequency and severity of fecal incontinence symptoms will be measured using a modified Cleveland Clinic Incontinence Score as the primary criteria by which success is evaluated.
Evaluation of Obstetrical Risk Factors for the development of Urinary and/or Fecal Incontinence according to a questionaire The questionaire will be filled by the study investigators after the women participating in the study sign their consent. The study is based solely on a questionaire and does not include any physical examination, blood exam or intervention. The study will be performed on the premises of Maaynei Hayeshua medical center. The inclusion criteria include women above the age of 18 who arrive to Maaynei Hayeshua Medical center for any reason. The data will be transferred to a computerized data base and analyzed statistically.
