The current study involved analysis of the corneal tomographic parameters of patients with thyroid gland dysfunction (hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism), including those with an autoimmune etiology, in comparison to healthy controls without TGD, using pentacam, in an attempt to detect possible early corneal changes and to highlight whether early screening of those patients would be necessary for early detection of KC.
In some symmetrical pediatric ocular pathologies, the treatment is surgical with usually satisfactory postoperative results in visual terms. However, it is often difficult to choose the right moment to operate. The main difficulty is that the child's vision is unknown since the child is still in a preverbal age. The investigators have developed a questionnaire with the aim of quantifying the child's vision so that the decision is most justified. The items of this questionnaire were established based on the literature and were submitted to a panel of experts in ophthalmo-pediatrics. The objective of this study is to determine the internal validity and as far as possible (since there is no equivalent tool) the external validity of the questionnaire developed.
This study was intended to test if reframing an offer for a free follow-up eye examination could increase uptake within ongoing community-based screening program for low-income and minority populations in Baltimore City. This study evaluated the effect of offering participants a physical voucher they were told was redeemable for free follow-up, relative to simply telling participants that the follow-up appointment would be free of charge. The investigators assessed two forms of vouchers, one with estimated value information, and one without. The underlying hypothesis was that reframing these already free offers would increase uptake by increasing perceived offer value and increasing a sense of regret from not taking advantage of a "good deal."
The modern treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD) is based on anti-inflammatory drops or oral antibiotics for decreasing dry eye disease (DED) associated inflammation, warm compresses for liquefying the thicker meibum, and lid hygiene for reducing the bacterial overload. But, such treatments have shown limited effectiveness to a large proportion of patients with MGD, due to the multifactorial background of the disease. Thus, alternative approaches aiming at different aspects of the DED pathophysiology are needed. Elimination of posterior lid-margin hyperemia with telangiectasia could be a treatment target for reducing the secretion of inflammatory mediators in the course of MGD. Using the mechanism of photocoagulation via selective thermolysis, laser light could contribute to the destruction of abnormal vessels at the posterior lid-margin and thus, the reduction of inflammation. Recently, sub-threshold (micropulse) laser photocoagulation was introduced in ophthalmology and offers significant clinical advantages compared to conventional continuous wave (CW) approach, preventing laser induced thermal damage and related treatment side effects. This study investigates the effect of sub-threshold (micropulse) laser treatment for dry eye disease due to meibomian gland dysfunction combined with increased eyelid margin vascularity.

Strabismus affects approximately 0.8%-6.8% of the world's population and appears by the age of 3 years in 65% of affected individuals. Manual measurement of deviation is often laborious and highly dependent on the experience of the specialist and the cooperation of the patients. Current strabismus evaluation technologies are heavily dependent on model eyes. Here, the investigators use deep learning to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) platform consisting of three deep learning (DL) systems to screen strabismus, evaluate deviation and propose a surgical plan based on corneal light-reflection photos. The investigator also conduct clinical trial to validate its versatility in clinical practice.
To evaluate the benefit of treatment with a physician administered intracanalicular dexamethasone insert in evaporative dry eye disease (DED) patients with meibomian gland disfunction (MGD) and underlying inflammation undergoing LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation.
To evaluate the benefit of treatment with a physician administered intracanalicular dexamethasone insert in patients with dry eye who are beginning treatment with Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution) to reduce the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.
The primary objective of this project is to understand the reasons why patients agree / disagree to take part in ophthalmology research. This will be done by asking participants to complete a Research Questionnaire.
