Physical Activity Observatory of Castilla-La Mancha

The OBAFIT project aims to examine the patterns of physical activity, sedentary activity and health-related physical fitness of the boys and girls enrolled in schools of Primary Education and Secondary Education in Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). The design of the project is observational/cross-sectional. Through an epidemiological orientation, it proposes a representative sampling of a multistage type of the Castilian-La Mancha population aged 6 to 16 years. The subjects that will make up the sample will be selected from among the 724 Castilian-La Mancha schools with teachings in the Primary Education stage, and among 373 Secondary Education schools. To ensure the heterogeneity of the population, both public and private centers will be selected, and proportionally between centers that have Healthy School Programs (PES) from those that do not. The sample will be multistage, randomized and stratified according to province (Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Toledo), area (urban, semi-urban, rural), sex (men, women) and age (one group for each age group).

Effects of Intradialytic Exercise on Health-related Quality of Life

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of intradialyic exercise on dialytic parameters, HRQL, and depression status in hemodialysis patients. A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Sixty-four participants were recruited using stratified random sampling and allocated with a 1:1 randomization ratio to either experimental group (EG, treated in odd weekdays, n = 32) or comparison group (CG, treated in even weekdays, n = 32). The EG received a 12-week intradialytic exercise, while the CG maintained usual lifestyles. Dialytic parameters, HRQL, and depression status were collected at baseline and at 12 weeks. The results indicated that there were no differences in changes of dialytic parameters from baseline between EG and CG. However, the EG had increased HRQL and reduced depression status at 12 weeks compared with the CG. A 12-week intradialytic exercise is safe, feasible and effective in improved HRQL and reduced depression status for hemodialysis patients.

Aiming to determine the effects of elastic band exercise on kinesiophobia, functional capacity, and depression after the total knee arthroplasty, the present study was designed and carried out as a randomized controlled trial study. The study was carried out between October 2019 and April 2020 in the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department of a training and research hospital.This study, the effects of elastic band exercise program on the pain, kinesiophobia, quality of life, depression, and functional capacity of TKA patients were examined. Elastic band exercise program significantly decreased the pain level, exercise fear, and depression level of patients and positively contributed to the quality of life and functional capacity.

Game on Philly: Engaging Underserved Middle School Youth in Out-of- School Time Sports and Nutrition Education

Game on Philly is a multi-component out-of-school time intervention delivered by trained sport-based youth development coaches and health navigators using evidenced-based programming. The program evaluation assesses the impact of this minimal-risk intervention to reduce the prevalence of obesity-related health disparities in racial and ethnic minority middle school youth. The program is a virtual sport-based youth development program, supplemented with nutrition education. The program was modified due to Covid-19 and is entirely virtual. Using a quasi-experimental design, six schools are assigned to the intervention arm and six schools are assigned to the comparison arm. Participants in intervention schools receive access to daily, online after school programming, with live sessions with sports providers (via Zoom), weekly team meetings with a health coach (via Zoom), text-messages via the Remind app, and the monthly delivery of Activity Kits directly to their homes for six months. Comparison school participants receive access to the Game on Philly app with workout and sports content and receive one activity kit delivery at the start of the program. Parent-child dyads recruited from each school complete surveys at baseline and at the end of the 6-month program (follow-up). It is hypothesized that youth participating in the intervention will experience significantly greater increases in physical activity at the end of the 6-month intervention compared to youth participating in the comparison arm (primary outcome). Secondary outcomes will examine changes in dietary intake, self-efficacy for physical activity and positive youth development.

Telerehabilitation in Individuals With Unilateral Transtibial Amputation

It is aimed to investigate the effects of telerehabilitation-based structured exercise on muscle strength, balance, performance, body image, prosthesis adaptation, activity limitation, prosthesis use satisfaction, and quality of life in individuals with unilateral below-knee amputation. Study hypothesis: In individuals with transtibial amputation, telerehabilitation-based structured exercise has an effect on muscle strength, balance, performance, body image, prosthesis adaptation, activity limitation, prosthesis use satisfaction, and quality of life. Forty individuals with a unilateral transtibial amputation will be included in the study. Participants will be divided into two groups as telerehabilitation and control groups with equal sample sizes by the randomization method. All participants will undergo a 6-week exercise program. A structured exercise program supported by telerehabilitation will be applied to the telerehabilitation group 3 days a week, and a home exercise program will be applied on the remaining days of the week. An only a home exercise program will be applied to the control group. Participants will be evaluated at the beginning and end of the study.

To compare the level neuromuscular fatigue induced by anaerobic and aerobic training. 4. To highlight correlation between neuromuscular fatigue and performance markers.

Combined Exercise and Cognitive Stimulation for Falls Prevention

Randomized clinical trial of 310 older adults over 75 years old recruited from the Falls Units of Geriatric Departments in 4 three University Hospitals in Spain (Pamplona, San Sebastián, Albacete and Barcelona). Participants who met inclusion criteria will be randomized to the usual care group (Otago exercise program) or the Vivifrail-Cog Intervention (a combination of physical exercise Vivifrail program and cognitive training). The main objective of the present randomized clinical trial is to investigate the effect of the combined intervention (exercise and cognitive intervention) in frail older participants living in the community and at risk of falling. The main endpoint will be the rate of falling in the following year. Secondary endpoints include physical performance, muscle strength, cognitive performance, hospitalizations, institutionalization, depression and quality of life.
