Filter by:Endolymphatic hydrops is well known of the lay public in its primary form that is Ménière disease. Nowadays, the best w ay to approach it in vivo, is to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, endolymphatic hydrops don't limit itself to its primary form but cover a whole range of pathologies. The hypothesis is that patients with vestibular schwannomas are more likely to develop secondary saccular hydrops. The aim is to compare high-resolution T2-weighted images of the saccule in patients followed up for vestibular schwannomas with healthy volunteers and histological sections from cadavers in order to identify its changes. The secondary purpose of The protocol is to determine if vestibular and audiometric abnormalities could be related to this secondary hydrops more specifically than to the tumor size and localisation.
The Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD) approved the reimbursement of the slow release FAc implant (ILUVIEN) and it is now available for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) in persons who have been previously treated with a course of corticosteroids and did not have a clinically significant rise in intraocular pressure. We performed a retrospective 12-month audit to assess the efficacy and safety of the FAc implant in our clinical practice.
Long-term follow-up of patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) treated with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) combined focal laser and identification of prognostic morphological characteristics.
- Main objective: Inflammation factors in imaging techniques of diabetic macular edema - Prospective observational design - Disease under study: Diabetic macular edema - Methodology: Collection of the image data in the usual control (baseline visit, 4th month) - Population under study and total number of subjects Diabetics with macular edema. - Approximate N: 80 pacients. - Expected duration of the study: 12 months.
The symptoms of intralabyrinthine schwannomas (vertigo, deafness, instability, tinnitus) cut across the symptoms found in pressure pathologies involving the inner ear, particularly the endolymphatic hydrops. Some publications have described dilatation of the membranous labyrinth (hydrops) in the presence of intralabyrinthine tumors. It would be interesting to measure the size of the saccule (structure of the membranous labyrinth) in the presence of an intralabyrinthine schwannoma, to evaluate if some of the symptoms presented by the patients could be explained by the concomitant presence of an endolymphatic hydrops (accessible to drug therapy - Betahistine).
Purpose: To evaluate retinal functional improvement by means of visual acuity and retinal sensibility examination after intravitreal dexamethasone implant in patients affected by cystoid macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion.
The aim of the study is determining the prophylactic effect of ketorolac tromethamine drop 0.5% eye drop on the functional and anatomical ocular characteristics of the diabetic patients after the phacoemulsification surgery. Cystoid macular edema (CME) is a ocular disease which the retinal thickness is increased by 30 % incidence at least or the visual acuity is decreased to 20/40 according to clinical definition. Ketorolac tromethamine is an non steroidal anti inflammatory medication which is used for treatment and Prophylactic for CME. Teh aim of this study is prophylactic effect of ketorolac tromethamine on choroidal and retinal thickness after Phacoemulsification in Diabetic Patients. In this randomized clinical trial, 102 eyes of 102 diabetic patients were included. All patients were undergone phacoemulsification surgery at Torfeh Eye Hospital between September 2015 and January 2017. To evaluate the prophylactic effect of ketorolac tromethamine topical eye drop, all cases were asked to apply it one day before the s:surgery in each 8 hours and continue it for 4 weeks after the surgery. Controls were not received placebo. All study population were examined using Snellen visual acuity chart, enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT). All patients were followed at 6, 12 and 24 weeks after the cataract surgery.
Compression stockings have beneficial effects on the development of venous thromboembolic complications and oedema during long- haul flights. A randomized controlled trial investigating the effect of compression stockings during short-haul flights with a duration less than fur ours is lacking. Deep vein thrombosis is very rare on flights shorter than four hours, but compression stocking could have beneficial effects on other outcomes. The aim of this study is to assess if compression stockings used during a 3-3.5-hour flight will decrease leg edema and discomfort.
The aim of this study was to compare the effect of acupuncture and placebo acupuncture for the control of pain, edema, and trismus following the extraction of third molars and control of preoperative anxiety. Patients who met the study criteria were randomized to the type of acupuncture (active acupuncture or placebo acupuncture) and to the side of the first surgery (right or left).
Macular edema is the main cause of low vision in diabetics. They continue looking for new treatment alternatives. The nutritional supplement Alzer, is a powerful antioxidant that together with Diamel, a supplement that has shown efficacy in metabolic control, could be a therapeutic option. Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the Alzer Diamel combination in mild and moderate macular edema. Material and method: A randomized double-blind phase II clinical trial versus placebo will be conducted in 64 patients, who will be randomly assigned to two groups, one will receive Alzer + Diamel and another will receive placebo from Alzer and Diamel. All patients will undergo clinical, biochemical and ophthalmological evaluation during the study.
