Filter by:The aim of this study was to develop a gait assessment instrument for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy patients (DMD-GAS), and investigate its validity and reliability.The scale was developed considering the expert opinions which included 10 physiotherapists who had experience in the management of patients with DMD over the 2-round Delphi method, and the Content Validity Index (CVI) was calculated. The final version of the DMD-GAS that was agreed upon the experts consisted of 10 items, and each item scored between 0 and 2. The intra-rater reliability was established by the video analysis of children with a 1-month interval and inter-rater reliability was determined by the scores of 3 physiotherapists. The criterion validity was determined by investigating the relationship between the total score of the DMD-GAS and Motor Function Measure (MFM), 6 Minute Walk Test (6MWT), and the data obtained from GAITRite system.
In the PuRe COVID study (a randomized, controlled, multicenter, pragmatic trial) the investigators aim to assess the effect of a pulmonary rehabilitation program in primary care on exercise capacity (6MWT) and daily life physical activity in patients with long COVID. 134 patients with long COVID, defined by self-reported persistent COVID related symptoms ≥6 weeks after COVID-19 infection and a positive symptom score (CAT score ≥10 or mMRC score ≥2 or CIS-fatigue ≥36 or PCFS score of ≥2), will be recruited and divided into an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group will get twelve weeks of primary care pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) including coaching by primary care physiotherapists. The control group consists of usual care, which does not include a pulmonary rehabilitation program. This study will help determine whether the type of symptoms or affected body system can impact recovery form long covid during rehabilitation and after follow-up. The investigators will analyze determinants and risk factors that characterize non-responders and non-adherers to better understand which patients with long COVID benefit from rehabilitation.
Randomized clinical trial in which individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD and are regularly treated with Methylphenidate will be test for cognitive performance and will be randomly examined in the following four conditions: - While taking Methylphenidate and sitting at a desk - While taking Methylphenidate and walking on a treadmill workstation - Without taking Methylphenidate while sitting at a desk - Without taking Methylphenidate while walking on a treadmill workstation The investigators will compare the cognitive achievements outcomes and evaluate the efficiency of studying in each of these four conditions.
The purpose of this study is to investigate an immersive virtual field trip (iVFT) on topic specific academic vocabulary for students with developmental language disorder (DLD). DLD is the most common childhood learning disorder with a prevalence of 7.4%(1) and occurs in the absence of a known biomedical condition (e.g., hearing loss, autism, stroke, intellectual disability). DLD affects a person's academic and social function due to difficulty with using and understanding language.(2,3) Approximately half of students with DLD have a deficit in vocabulary that persists through highschool.(4) Once children fall behind in their language and vocabulary development, it is very difficult to catch up generally resulting in a wider gap as they progress through their school years. This deficit can have cascading social, mental health, occupational and financial consequences.(5) There is preliminary evidence that a virtual reality experience such as an immersive virtual field trip (iVFT) was beneficial for facilitating vocabulary and comprehension in general education(6-8) and within targeted populations of students including second language learners(9) and those with learning differences (e.g., autism,(10) attention deficit hyperactivity,(11,12) and dyslexia(13). The term "immersive" refers to a state of heightened sensation when viewing a simulated environment that is superimposed onto a screen with embedded multisensory input (e.g., visual, auditory, proprioceptive).(14) The viewer looks through 3D goggles to block out the present environment resulting in a feeling of presence. These simulated experiences or destinations (e.g., space) are a type of VR referred to as an immersive virtual field trip (iVFT). To date, there is a lack of empirical evidence, explicitly targeting academic vocabulary growth for early grade school students with DLD. In addition, no study has reported on learning outcomes of students with DLD following a VR condition. Therefore, the primary study objective was to compare gains in academic vocabulary measures between a traditional book condition and an iVFT learning condition for young students with DLD.
Globally, 250 million children do not reach their developmental potential and 155 million are stunted, yet few population-based studies have examined the direct effects of nutrient deficiencies on early brain development. This study will examine an evolutionary nutrition intervention during pregnancy derived from diets consumed for 99.9% of hominin history when bodies and brains were healthier. A pilot clinical trial will be conducted in the central highlands of Ecuador to compare fetal and newborn outcomes among women randomized to: 1) evolutionary nutrition package (high quality diet plus nutrition messaging); and 2) control (standard-of care supplements). Ultrasound brain measures, nutrition and morbidity data, and blood metabolomics will be assessed at 21 weeks gestational age, 37 weeks gestational stage, and postpartum. This pilot study uniquely combines the expertise of multiple disciplines - public health nutrition, radiology, neuroscience, and metabolomics - to examine the potential for improved nutrition on early growth and brain development with vital public health implications.
Multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) are costly and pervasive among older adults. MCCs account for 90% of Medicare spending, and 65% of Medicare beneficiaries have 3 or more chronic conditions; 23% have 5 or more. MCCs are often addressed in primary care, where time pressures force a focus on medication and lab results rather than self-management skills. Patients often struggle with treatment adherence and the emotional and physical burdens of self-management and health tracking. Chronic conditions reduce quality of life (QOL) and increase loneliness, which exacerbate those conditions. The primary purpose of this study is to investigate whether a voice-based platform is better for delivering an electronic health intervention to older adults than a text/typing-based platform. We have an evidence-based electronic health intervention (Elder Tree, ET) that has been shown to improve quality of life, physical and socio-emotional health outcomes for older adults with multiple chronic conditions when delivered via a text/typing-based system. The current project would test whether such patients would benefit even more if ET were delivered via a voice-based system (vs. the text-based system) because they would use it more consistently. ET is an existing intervention providing tools, motivation, and support on a computer platform to help older adults manage their health.

Mindfulness, seemingly a simple concept, research shows that the impact of mindfulness on the overall wellness of an individual can be helpful (5). Research supports that mindfulness leads to reduced stress, enhanced performance, better focus, and improved approach (7). Areas of mindfulnessare mindful eating,movement and meditation. Application of mindfulness tools in these areas can be beneficial to health outcomes and to create a happier more efficient work environment (9). Mindful eating shows to improve diet quality and attitudes toward food and eating. Individuals better understand physical hunger/fullness cues, improve nutrient density, weight control,digestion,systolic blood pressure, and stress(2). Disordered eating behaviors have also shown to improve(3). Mindless eating, such as eating while being on the phone, driving, or watching television can have the opposite effect and can be linked to more emotional hunger cues. Combining mindful eating with diet therapy can lead to healthier food choices and a more positive feeling towards eating and body image, reducing stress and improving the overall wellness of an individual (4). Aspire's experience shows that aspects of teacher's wellness is worsening with ,media reporting more and more employees resigning from their positions every day (wccb,2021). Teachers have voiced their need for more support with their wellbeing. As a result, Aspire Nutrition is targeting school employees through a newly developed mindfulness program titled Nourish Carolina. This program will be focused on improving the overall wellness of participants Participants are enrolled in the study for 12 weeks. All participants will have weekly nutritional counseling and bi-weekly mental health counseling. Study group will have nutrition and mental health counseling with mindfulness activities and control group will receive nutrition and mental health sessions without mindfulness activities. There is a program curriculum so that mental health and nutrition mindfulness activities compliment eachother The mindfulness lessons for study group are divided into 6 nutrition and 6 mental health sessions,for 15 minutes during the session. Positive outcomes could include improved workplace performance as a result of enhancing school employees overall wellness and quality of life by reducing stress levels, improving diet quality, and improving mental health.

Eating disorders (ED) are a major public health problem for which current treatments are insufficiently effective. The transdiagnostic approach of eating disorders highlights body dissatisfaction (BD) as a major factor in the development and maintenance of the different types of eating disorders. Thus, we hypothesize that a group focused on the management of BDc would improve the prognosis of patients with eating disorders.
