This is an observational study to assess the long-term safety of Protopic® Ointment for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Patients whose ages are/were < 16 years at the time of first tacrolimus ointment exposure are eligible to participate. No drug is distributed during this observational trial.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common skin disease that has increased in prevalence worldwide two- to threefold over the last 50 years. Epiceram, a newly FDA-approved medical device is a topical barrier repair cream designed to deliver special epidermal lipids to the top layers of the skin in order to correct skin barrier abnormalities found in atopic dermatitis. Epiceram does not contain corticosteroids or other conventional anti-inflammatory components and represents a novel class of skin barrier repair therapy for inflammatory skin disease. The objective of this study is to determine whether Epiceram is a safe and effective therapy for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis and whether it may serve as an alternative to Elidel therapy.
Infants will be enrolled in this study if they have never been diagnosed with asthma or wheezing and have been diagnosed with atopic dermatitis or eczema. Infants with some types of skin rashes are at high risk for developing asthma by 6 years of age. The purpose of this study is to determine whether we can identify infants who will develop asthma.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a very common disorder that is characterized by pruritic inflammatory skin lesions, with patients usually having an individual or family history of atopic diseases in their background. Phototherapy is among the first-line approaches in the management of AD. In this context, a variety of studies have shown a beneficial effect of natural or artificial UV radiation in atopic dermatitis (AD). The past ten years have seen the introduction of new phototherapeutic regimens for AD, including UVA1 and NB-UVB.UVA1 seems to be more effective than the above mentioned broadband spectra, in particular in acute severe AD. The aim of the present study is the comparison of UVA1 and NB-UVB phototherapy in the treatment of AD. Additionally, the course of several cytokines, human beta-defensins, and SMAD-proteins will be evaluated during the course of treatment.
