Filter by:The purpose of this randomized clinical trial is to compare the clinical effectiveness of three treatments involving different caries management strategies (conventional restorations, Hall technique, and Non-Restorative Caries Treatment) to the management of class II carious primary molars in children (3-8 year-old).
The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical efficacy of resin infiltration (Icon, DMG, Germany) compared to fluoride varnish (Duraphat Fluoride Varnish, Colgate, USA) in the management of proximal early caries lesions in primary molars over 24 months. In addition, this study will assess the use of a scanning fiber endoscope (SFE) laser optical device for the assessment of caries lesions and their progression in comparison to radiographic examination. A total of 50 participants (age 6-13 years) with at least 1 proximal early caries lesion will be enrolled. The participants will be followed up at 12 and 24 months. Lesion status will be monitored through radiographic and SFE laser optical device imaging.
In a previous study the efficacy of Lb CD2 on interim covariates related to caries development was tested. So, it was decided to plan a new study on schoolchildren from the same area. The aim of the present research protocol was to evaluate the anticariogenic effect of probiotics daily used, on the caries development in children. The null hypothesis was that the probiotic Lb CD2 would not modify the caries risk of the children. Moreover, the study will be carried out to investigate the plaque acidogenicity in situ following the regular consumption of a probiotic product compared to a control group. AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of daily tooth brushing with high concentrated fluoride dentifrice on white spot lesion (WSL) formation in adolescents during treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances (FOA). The null hypothesis is that neither incidence nor severity of lesions would differ from a control group using standard fluoride dentifrice. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: 420 healthy consecutive 11-16 year-old patients referred to 4 Orthodontic Specialist Clinics are randomized to use either a dentifrice containing 5.000 ppm fluoride or a regular dentifrice with 1.450 ppm sodium fluoride. To be eligible for inclusion, the patients are scheduled for bimaxillary treatment with FOA for an expected duration of at least 1 year. All are instructed to use 0.25 gram dentifrice and brush their teeth during 2 minutes twice daily during the entire period of treatment. Before bonding, and after polishing with a rubber cup and non-fluoride pumice paste, 3 digital photos of the maxillary incisors, canines and premolars are taken. At debonding, remaining composite material on the surfaces is removed with a slow rotating carbide bur followed by polishing with a rubber cup and pumice paste. A new series of frontal and lateral digital photos is thereafter exposed. The primary outcome measure is the incidence and severity of WSL as registered separately by two blinded experienced and calibrated clinicians according to a validated index. A random sample of 50 cases is re-assessed to check intra- and inter-examiner reliability. The intervention is indended run throughout the full duration of the orthodontic treatment, varying between 18 and 24 months.

The aim of the prospective project is to investigate effect of daily probiotic supplements on dental caries development in preschool children living in a low socioeconomic immigrant area in souithern Sweden. The study design is a randomised controlled trial with two parallell arms. The intervention is one probiotic tablet or placebo once daily. The null hypothesis is that the caries experience and increment will not differ betwwen the two groups.
